How do words influence the way we perceive reality and the people who are part of it? This will be discussed on Wednesday, October 21, at 8.45 p.m., at the Auditorium Dina Orsi in Conegliano, in the meeting The language of gender: challenges and opportunities, featuring sociolinguist and translator Vera Gheno and Elena Casagrande, editorial director of La Chiave di Sophia.
Starting from the theme “From A to Z: how grammar constructs (or erases) people”, the event explores the relationship between language, gender, and society, showing how linguistic choices can contribute to giving visibility to people, but also to excluding them or making them less recognizable. This has been a central topic in linguistic studies for decades and continues to generate attention and discussion today.
The meeting thus offers an opportunity to reflect on the role of words in constructing social reality and how language evolves along with the society that uses it.
