Serravalle era un luogo importantissimo per il commercio nel Medioevo e Rinascimento, un punto strategico lungo la Strada di Alemagna. Arrivando da Venezia, qui iniziava la salita verso il nord. Giungendo invece dai paesi d’oltralpe, dopo la stretta di Serravalle, erano terminate le pene di un lungo e impervio viaggio e iniziava la parte pianeggiante. Per Serravalle passava anche Tiziano, grandissimo artista e abile uomo d’affari. Passeggeremo insieme a lui e ai “foresti” - mercanti, pellegrini, artisti ed
osti, parlando di lana, seta, vino e arte.

Serravalle war im Mittelalter und in der Renaissance ein äußerst wichtiger Ort für den Handel und ein strategischer Punkt entlang der Via Alemagna. Von Venedig kommend begann hier der Aufstieg gen Norden. Wer hingegen aus den Ländern jenseits der Alpen kam, der hatte nach der Engstelle von Serravalle die Mühen einer langen und beschwerlichen Reise hinter sich gelassen und betrat die ebene Landschaft.
