Nel Salone della Basilica Palladiana è allestita la ricostruzione della scena del Teatro Olimpico realizzata nel 1948 in scala quasi reale per portare l’Edipo Re in tournée nel mondo.
Ideato dal regista teatrale Guido Salvini nel 1948, Olimpichetto è una ricostruzione in scala quasi reale della frons scenae e delle prospettive del Teatro Olimpico, realizzata con materiali leggeri e pensata per essere smontata, trasportata e rimontata. Una macchina scenica di straordinaria raffinatezza e qualità, concepita per riprodurre in ogni luogo l’atmosfera unica del teatro palladiano.
La sua storia si intreccia con la volontà di rinascita artistica e civile di un Paese e di una città che uscivano dalle rovine del conflitto. Dopo anni di tournée in Italia e all’estero, dai primi anni 2000 la struttura venne ricoverata nei magazzini comunali: la sua storia cadde nell’oblio e dell’Olimpichetto si perse quasi la memoria.
Oggi, grazie a un accurato restauro e a una rigorosa indagine documentaria, l’Olimpichetto torna a vivere. La sua rinascita nel 2025 restituisce alla città un frammento prezioso del proprio patrimonio e riafferma, attraverso il teatro, la continuità della sua vocazione culturale.
Collocare Olimpichetto nel Salone della Basilica Palladiana significa restituire dignità e funzione a un unicum della storia del teatro, ma anche rinnovare il dialogo tra due architetture simboliche della città: la prima e l’ultima opera civica di Palladio.

In the Hall of the Palladian Basilica, a reconstruction of the scene from the Olympic Theatre is displayed, created in 1948 at almost life size to bring Oedipus Rex on tour around the world.
Designed by the theatre director Guido Salvini in 1948, Olimpichetto is an almost life-sized reconstruction of the frons scenae and the perspectives of the Olympic Theatre, made with lightweight materials and designed to be disassembled, transported, and reassembled. A scenographic machine of extraordinary refinement and quality, conceived to reproduce the unique atmosphere of the Palladian theatre in any location.
Its story intertwines with the desire for artistic and civil rebirth of a country and a city emerging from the ruins of conflict. After years of tours in Italy and abroad, in the early 2000s the structure was housed in municipal warehouses: its story fell into oblivion, and almost all memory of the Olimpichetto was lost.
Today, thanks to meticulous restoration and rigorous documentary investigation, the Olimpichetto comes back to life. Its rebirth in 2025 returns a precious fragment of the city's heritage and reaffirms, through theatre, the continuity of its cultural vocation.
Placing Olimpichetto in the Hall of the Palladian Basilica means restoring dignity and function to a unique element in the history of theatre, but also renewing the dialogue between two symbolic architectures of the city: the first and the last civic work by Palladio.

Im Saal der Basilica Palladiana ist die Rekonstruktion der Szene des Teatro Olimpico, die 1948 in fast lebensgroßem Maßstab für die Welttournee von König Ödipus geschaffen wurde, aufgebaut.
Entworfen vom Theaterregisseur Guido Salvini im Jahr 1948, ist Olimpichetto eine Rekonstruktion im fast lebensgroßen Maßstab der frons scenae und der Perspektiven des Teatro Olimpico, gefertigt aus leichten Materialien und gedacht, um abgebaut, transportiert und wieder aufgebaut zu werden. Eine Bühnenmaschine von außergewöhnlicher Raffinesse und Qualität, konzipiert, um an jedem Ort die einzigartige Atmosphäre des palladianischen Theaters nachzubilden.
Seine Geschichte ist mit dem Willen zur künstlerischen und zivilen Wiedergeburt eines Landes und einer Stadt verknüpft, die aus den Trümmern des Konflikts hervorgehen. Nach Jahren der Tournee in Italien und im Ausland wurde die Struktur seit den frühen 2000er Jahren in den kommunalen Lagerräumen untergebracht: Ihre Geschichte fiel in Vergessenheit und das Gedächtnis an Olimpichetto ging fast verloren.
Heute, dank einer sorgfältigen Restaurierung und einer strengen Dokumentationsuntersuchung, lebt Olimpichetto wieder auf. Seine Wiedergeburt im Jahr 2025 gibt der Stadt ein kostbares Fragment ihres Erbes zurück und bekräftigt, durch das Theater, die Kontinuität ihrer kulturellen Berufung.
Olimpichetto im Saal der Basilica Palladiana zu platzieren bedeutet, einer Einzigartigkeit in der Geschichte des Theaters Würde und Funktion zurückzugeben, aber auch den Dialog zwischen zwei symbolischen Architekturen der Stadt zu erneuern: dem ersten und dem letzten öffentlichen Werk von Palladio.
