Torna il dramma lirico pucciniano in tre atti caratterizzato dal ricco allestimento della Fondazione Arena di Verona in una cornice magica, con il fiabesco scenario ideato dal compianto Franco Zeffirelli e con i costumi del Premio Oscar Emi Wada.
L'opera è ambientata in Cina, a Pechino, in un mitico "tempo delle favole". Protagonista del dramma è la bellissima principessa Turandot dall'animo solitario a causa del peso che deve sopportare: in lei infatti alberga lo spirito di una sua antenata violentata e uccisa. Questo il motivo che scatena in Turandot disagio e orrore nei confronti degli uomini. Ma il destino riuscirà a scalfire il cuore di Turandot e un bacio appassionato coronerà l'amore tra la bella principessa e Calaf, principe tartaro spodestato, temerario paladino di cupido.
Struggente e appassionata, l’ultima opera lirica di Giacomo Puccini è sicuramente una delle più belle favole d’amore di tutti i tempi, tra amore e speranza.
Una delle arie più celebri dell’opera è il “Nessun dorma“, una romanza intonata dal personaggio di Calaf all’inizio dell’atto III, quando finalmente avrà la possibilità di conquistare l’amore di Turandot, la principessa di ghiaccio.

The opera is set in China, in Beijing, in a mythical "fairy tale time." The protagonist of the drama is the beautiful princess Turandot, a solitary soul burdened by the weight she must bear: within her resides the spirit of an ancestor who was raped and killed. This is the reason that ignites discomfort and horror in Turandot towards men. But fate will manage to touch Turandot's heart, and a passionate kiss will crown the love between the beautiful princess and Calaf, a deposed Tartar prince, a daring champion of Cupid.

One of the most famous arias of the opera is "Nessun dorma,” a romance sung by the character of Calaf at the beginning of Act III, when he finally has the chance to win the love of Turandot, the ice princess.
