I suggestivi spazi espositivi della Biblioteca Capitolare ospitano la mostra temporanea Sotto il segno di Teodorico: storia e miti della Verona gota.
La nuova esposizione invita a entrare in una figura complessa e affascinante, sospesa tra storia e mito, e a riscoprire il profondo legame che la unisce alla città.
Re degli Ostrogoti e signore d’Italia tra V e VI secolo, Teodorico il Grande governò a lungo da Ravenna, ma Verona occupò un posto speciale nella sua geografia politica e simbolica.
Qui la sua presenza è rimasta impressa non solo nelle fonti storiche, ma anche nella memoria collettiva, alimentando nei secoli racconti e interpretazioni spesso divergenti.
Attraverso manoscritti, cronache e testi a stampa, il percorso espositivo ricostruisce il contesto storico in cui visse Teodorico: un’epoca di transizione, segnata dall’incontro – e talvolta dallo scontro – tra mondo romano e regni “barbarici”, tra tradizioni religiose diverse e nuovi equilibri politici.

The new exhibition invites visitors to enter into a complex and fascinating figure, suspended between history and myth, and to rediscover the deep connection that ties him to the city.
Kings of the Ostrogoths and lord of Italy between the 5th and 6th centuries, Theodoric the Great ruled for a long time from Ravenna, but Verona held a special place in his political and symbolic geography.
Here, his presence has remained imprinted not only in historical sources but also in collective memory, fueling over the centuries narratives and interpretations that are often divergent.
Through manuscripts, chronicles, and printed texts, the exhibition path reconstructs the historical context in which Theodoric lived: a transitional era marked by the meeting – and sometimes clash – between the Roman world and "barbarian" kingdoms, between different religious traditions and new political balances.
Die eindrucksvollen Ausstellungsräume der Bibliotheca Capitolare beherbergen die temporäre Ausstellung Unter dem Zeichen Theoderichs: Geschichte und Mythen des gotischen Verona.
Die neue Ausstellung lädt dazu ein, in eine komplexe und faszinierende Figur einzutauchen, die zwischen Geschichte und Mythos schwebt, und die tiefe Verbindung zu entdecken, die sie mit der Stadt verbindet.
König der Ostgoten und Herrscher über Italien im 5. und 6. Jahrhundert, regierte Theoderich der Große lange Zeit von Ravenna aus, aber Verona hatte einen besonderen Platz in seiner politischen und symbolischen Geographie. Hier blieb seine Präsenz nicht nur in historischen Quellen, sondern auch im kollektiven Gedächtnis verankert, was im Laufe der Jahrhunderte Geschichten und oft divergierende Interpretationen nährte.Durch Manuskripte, Chroniken und Drucktexte rekonstruiert der Ausstellungsparcours den historischen Kontext, in dem Theoderich lebte: eine Übergangszeit, geprägt von der Begegnung – und manchmal dem Konflikt – zwischen der römischen Welt und „barbarischen“ Königreichen, zwischen unterschiedlichen religiösen Traditionen und neuen politischen Gleichgewichten.
