Il Nabucco di Giuseppe Verdi torna per quattro serate sul palco dell'Anfiteatro Romano, proposto nell’allestimento creato nel 1991 da Gianfranco de Bosio, con la rigorosa scenografia immaginata da Rinaldo Olivieri e dominata da un’imponente Torre di Babele.
Sul palco nel ruolo di Nabucco si alternano in scena i baritoni Enkhbatyn Amartüvshin, Roman Burdenko e Luca Salsi.
Al suo debutto, nel ruolo di Fenena, la mezzosoprano siciliana José Maria Lo Monaco.
Nabucco, originariamente "Nabucodonosor", è un'opera lirica che illustra la condizione di schiavitù del Popolo Ebraico in terra babilonese. L'amore travagliato è il tema cardine dell'opera: già dal primo atto si delinea la una doppia storia d'amore e gelosia tra le due figlie del re babilonese Nabucco, Fenena ed Abigaile con l'ebreo Ismaele.
Sullo sfondo il contrasto fra la fede nell'unico dio degli ebrei e la divinità pagana di Belo. Il dio degli Ebrei dapprima colpisce con un fulmine Nabucco, poi ne ispira le conversioni del re e della figlia Fenena. L'opera termina con la vittoria del bene sul male attraverso il suicidio di Abigaile, usurpatrice del trono di Babele. Suggestivo e emozionante il coro degli Ebrei che, sulle sponde del fiume Eufrate, invoca la patria lontana sulle note del Va Pensiero.

The Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi returns for four evenings on the stage of the Roman Amphitheatre, proposed with the staging created in 1991 by Gianfranco de Bosio, with the rigorous scenography imagined by Rinaldo Olivieri and dominated by an imposing Tower of Babel.
The baritones Enkhbatyn Amartüvshin, Roman Burdenko and Luca Salsi alternate on stage in the role of Nabucco.
At her debut, in the role of Fenena, the Sicilian mezzo-soprano José Maria Lo Monaco.
Nabucco is an opera that shows the conditions of slavery of the Jewish people in Babylonia. Love troubled is the central theme of the work: from the first act sets out a double story of love and jealousy between the two daughters of the Babylonian king Nabucco, Fenena and Abigaile with the jew Ismaele.
In the background the contrast between faith in the god of the Jews and the pagan god of Belo. The god of the Jews first strikes with lightning Nabucco, then it inspires conversions of the king and daughter Fenena. The work ends with the victory of good over evil through the suicide of Abigaile, usurper of the throne of Babel. Evocative and exciting chorus of the Jews who, on the banks of the Euphrates River, invokes the distant homeland to the tune of Va Pensiero.
