Con la mostra allestita a Ca’ Rezzonico – Museo del Settecento veneziano, Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia presenta la recente donazione di Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli, presidente della storica manifattura tessile veneziana. Una preziosa raccolta di 29 disegni di antichi maestri veneti, tra cui Palma il Giovane, Luca Carlevarijs, Sebastiano Ricci, Canaletto e Giambattista Tiepolo, che l’avvocato e Cavaliere del Lavoro ha scelto di donare alla città di Venezia, destinandola al Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe della Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
Frutto di una raffinata passione collezionistica, la raccolta riflette il profondo legame di Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli con Venezia, la sua storia e i suoi artisti. Accanto all’attività imprenditoriale, ha infatti coltivato un intenso interesse per la storia della Serenissima, costruendo nel tempo anche un’importante collezione di libri antichi dedicati a Venezia, comprendente opere storiche, guide e album illustrati, dalla fine del Quattrocento ai primi del Novecento.
La raccolta, esposta nel portego del primo piano di Ca’ Rezzonico, si articola in due nuclei principali. Il primo comprende un gruppo di fogli del Cinquecento, tra cui spicca il Cristo tentato dal diavolo di Palma il Giovane, il secondo nucleo è dedicato al Settecento veneziano e costituisce il cuore della donazione, riunendo alcuni dei principali artisti dell’ultima stagione della Serenissima.
La donazione di Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli rappresenta un gesto di straordinario valore culturale e civile. Conferma il ruolo centrale del Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe nello studio, nella conservazione e nella valorizzazione della grafica antica e ribadisce la missione della Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia nella tutela e nella trasmissione del patrimonio culturale alle future generazioni.
Entrato nell’azienda di famiglia nel 1955, a soli ventiquattro anni, Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli ne ha guidato in breve tempo l’espansione internazionale, promuovendo collaborazioni con artisti e progettisti di fama mondiale. Nel 2018 ha inoltre fondato la Fondazione Rubelli, con l’obiettivo di promuovere e valorizzare il patrimonio storico e contemporaneo dell’azienda, che comprende, oltre all’Archivio Storico, migliaia di bozzetti e oltre cinquantamila campioni tessili.

On display at Ca’ Rezzonico are drawings by 16th-century masters and 18th-century Venetian masterpieces from the Favaretto Rubelli donation.

With this exhibition at Ca’ Rezzonico—Museum of 18th-Century Venice—the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia presents the recent donation by Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli, president of the historic Venetian textile manufacturer. A precious collection of 29 drawings by Venetian old masters, including Palma il Giovane, Luca Carlevarijs, Sebastiano Ricci, Canaletto, and Giambattista Tiepolo—whose works the attorney and Knight of Labor chose to donate to the city of Venice, bequeathing them to the Department of Drawings and Prints of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
The result of a refined passion for collecting, the collection reflects Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli’s deep connection to Venice, its history, and its artists. Alongside his business activities, he has cultivated a keen interest in the history of the Serenissima, building over time a significant collection of antique books dedicated to Venice, including historical works, guidebooks, and illustrated albums, dating from the late 15th century to the early 20th century.
The collection, on display in the first-floor arcade of Ca’ Rezzonico, is divided into two main sections. The first includes a group of 16th-century drawings, among which Palma the Younger’s Christ Tempted by the Devil stands out; the second section is dedicated to 18th-century Venice and constitutes the heart of the donation, bringing together some of the leading artists of the Serenissima’s final era.
Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli’s donation is a gesture of extraordinary cultural and civic significance. It confirms the central role of the Department of Drawings and Prints in the study, conservation, and promotion of historical prints and reaffirms the mission of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia to preserve and pass on cultural heritage to future generations.
After joining the family business in 1955, at just twenty-four years old, Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli quickly led its international expansion, fostering collaborations with world-renowned artists and designers. In 2018, he also founded the Rubelli Foundation, with the goal of promoting and preserving the company’s historical and contemporary heritage, which includes, in addition to the Historical Archive, thousands of sketches and over fifty thousand fabric samples.

Das Ergebnis einer raffinierten Sammelleidenschaft spiegelt die tiefe Verbundenheit von Alessandro Favaretto Rubelli mit Venedig, seiner Geschichte und seinen Künstlern wider. Neben der unternehmerischen Tätigkeit hat er auch ein intensives Interesse an der Geschichte der Serenissima gepflegt und im Laufe der Zeit eine bedeutende Sammlung von alten Büchern über Venedig aufgebaut, die historische Werke, Reiseführer und illustrierte Alben umfassen, von der späten Renaissance bis in die frühen Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Die Sammlung, die im Portego im ersten Stock von Ca’ Rezzonico ausgestellt ist, gliedert sich in zwei Hauptgruppen. Die erste umfasst eine Gruppe von Blattzeichnungen aus dem Cinquecento, darunter herausragend das Christus von dem Teufel versucht von Palma il Giovane, die zweite Gruppe ist dem venezianischen Settecento gewidmet und bildet das Herzstück der Spende, indem sie einige der Hauptkünstler der letzten Phase der Serenissima vereint.
