Appartenente all’aristocrazia, Clémence de Grandval costruì inizialmente la propria fama di musicista nei salotti parigini frequentati dall’alta società. Cantante e pianista, vi eseguiva le sue composizioni – come la Sonata per violino e pianoforte op. 8, che suonò per la prima volta presso Achille Gouffé nella primavera del 1852 – e poté anche avvantaggiarsi del prestigio della dimora della sua famiglia d’origine. Sebbene tali pratiche possano apparire strettamente legate all’Ancien Régime, esse rimasero vive fino agli inizi del XX secolo. Anche Reynaldo Hahn conobbe infatti un percorso analogo: la conquista dei grandi salotti parigini gli aprì successivamente le porte delle scene liriche.

Belonging to the aristocracy, Clémence de Grandval initially built her reputation as a musician in the Parisian salons frequented by high society. As a singer and pianist, she performed her compositions – such as the Sonata for violin and piano op. 8, which she premiered at Achille Gouffé in the spring of 1852 – and she was also able to benefit from the prestige of her family's residence. Although such practices may seem closely linked to the Ancien Régime, they remained vibrant until the early 20th century. Reynaldo Hahn also experienced a similar path: the conquest of the great Parisian salons subsequently opened the doors to opera stages for him.

Als Mitglied der Aristokratie baute Clémence de Grandval zunächst ihren Ruf als Musikerin in den Pariser Salons der hohen Gesellschaft auf. Als Sängerin und Pianistin führte sie ihre Kompositionen auf – wie die Sonate für Violine und Klavier op. 8, die sie zum ersten Mal im Frühling 1852 bei Achille Gouffé spielte – und konnte auch vom Prestige des Anwesens ihrer Herkunftsfamilie profitieren. Obwohl solche Praktiken eng mit dem Ancien Régime verbunden erscheinen mögen, blieben sie bis zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts lebendig. Auch Reynaldo Hahn erlebte einen ähnlichen Weg: die Eroberung der großen Pariser Salons öffnete ihm später die Türen zu den Opernbühnen.
