CHIESA DI SAN LONGINO
Il piccolo abitato di Costa è raggiungibile dalla strada che porta ai paesi di Brusadaz e Coi. Posizio-nato alle pendici del Monte Punta, è meta amata da fotografi e da chi vuole immortalare la Val di Zoldo in uno dei suoi classici paesaggi: la vista infatti, consente di spaziare fino al paese di Coi con il Monte Civetta sullo sfondo e dal Mas di Sabe, fino al Monte Pelmo. Caratterizzato dalla tranquil-lità e dalla quiete, è il posto ideale per chi cerca un po’ di pace, in una zona lontana da strade e grandi nodi di comunicazione.
Passeggiando lungo il borgo si potrà ammirare la minuscola e graziosa chiesa dedicata al martire Longino (milite che con la lancia squarciò il costato di Cristo e poi, battezzato dagli Apostoli, visse evangelicamente e confessò la propria fede finendo martirizzato in Cappadocia), che sorge al po-sto di un piccolo oratorio mariano, perito nell’incendio scoppiato nei primi anni del Novecento. L’inconsueta intitolazione a san Longino, stando alla leggenda, sarebbe dovuta al fatto che un’anziana di Costa (Jacoma Talamini) si salvo dal fuoco grazie ad una “voce” ammonitrice, da lei suggestivamente identificata con quella del santo del giorno, ovvero il martire San Longino. Sta di fatto che da allora si diffuse la particolare venerazione ed il santo milite dalla lunga lancia divenne patrono del villaggio. L’oratorio, benedetto il 10 agosto del 1929, venne quindi rifabbricato a ridosso dell’anno 1944.
Dalla chiesetta di San Longino, seguendo la stradina che attraversa Costa, finite le case, si snoda un sentiero che prosegue nel bosco che porta in circa 15 minuti in un luogo magico, sospeso nel tempo : il Mas de Sabe.
Il Mas, che significa maso, definizione di località abitata al massimo da due famiglie, si trova ad un’altitudine di 1464 m sul versante nord-ovest del Monte Punta, in comune di Val di Zoldo, in una posizione particolarmente felice.
Un grande prato, una vista portentosa verso i monti di Zoldo. Tutti tranne il Bosconero nascosto dal volume del Punta. Adagiato sul prato, tra rovine di altri edifici, un rustico composto di stalla e fienile. Il Mas di Sabe appunto. L’edificio è datato al XVI secolo, ma la parte ovest è stata costruita nel novecento. Il Mas di Sabe era uno dei tre masi della località, assieme al Mas de Mèz (a sud) ed al Mas di Ru Sech (a est). Nel 1538 vi abitavano due fratelli, Zamaria e Menego Dal Mas, calderaio il primo, proprietario di una mucca e sei pecore; agricoltore il secondo, proprietario di sei mucche e otto pecore..….
La costruzione mostra chiaramente lo stacco tra l’annesso novecentesco, simile a molti altri esem-pi zoldani, e la sua parte più antica, interamente in legno. La tipologia costruttiva è particolare. E’ una combinazione della tecnica a “castello” (blockbau) con quella “a colonne” (standerbau). In pratica tronchi interi e travi sono sormontati e affiancati attraverso un sistema di incroci ed inca-stri. Perfetti al punto che l’intera intelaiatura regge da centinaia di anni.
CHURCH OF LONGINO
The small residential area of Costa can be reached from the street that takes to the villages Brusadaz and Coi. Situated on the side of the Mount Punta, it is the destination beloved by photographers and people who want to immortalize the Zoldo Valley in one of its classical landscapes: in fact, the sight allows to extend till the village of Coi with the Mount Civetta in the background and Mas di Sabe, till the Mount Pelmo. Characterized by silence and quietness, it is the ideal place for people looking for peace, in an area far from streets and big communication hubs.
Walking down the village you can admire the tiny and sweet church dedicated to martyr Longino (a soldier who teared Christ’s ribs with his spear and then, baptized by the Apostles, lived according to the Gospel rules and confessed his own faith being martyrized in Cappadocia); it is situated at the place of a tiny Marian oratory, dead in the fire burst in the first years of the twentieth century. The unusual heading to san Longino, according to the legend, should tell that an old woman from Costa (Jacoma Talamini) was saved from fire thanks to a warning “voice”, that she identified in a leading way with the one of the saint of that day, that is martyr San Longino. The fact is that since then a particular veneration was spread and so the holy soldier with the long spear become patron saint of the village. The oratory, consecrated on 10th August 1929, was therefore rebuilt about in 1944.
From the little church of San Longino, going down the little street that crosses Costa, and passed the houses, there is a path that goes further in the wood and in 15 minutes you reach a magical place, suspended in time : the Mas de Sabe.
Mas, that means “maso” (farmstead), definition for a place inhabited at least by two families, is situated at a height of 1464 m on the north-west side of the Mount Punta, in the municipality of Zoldo Valley, in a particularly favorable posi-tion.
A big meadow, a wonderful sight towards the mountains of Zoldo. All except for the Bosconero, hidden by the volume of the Punta. Laid down on the meadow, among ruins of other buildings, there is a cottage composed of shed and hay-barn. Exactly the Mas of Sabe. The building dates back to the XVI century, but the west side was built in the twentieth century. Mas of Sabe was one of the three “masi” (farmsteads) of the place, together with the Mas de Mèz (south) and the Mas of Ru Sech (east). In 1538 two brothers lived there, Zamaria and Menego Dal Mas, the first was a boiler operator, owner of a cow and six sheep; the second, farmer, owner of six cows and eight sheep..….
The building shows clearly the detachment between the annexe of the twentieth century, similar to many other ex-ample in Zoldo, and its most ancient part, completely in wood. Its structural form is particular. It is a combination be-tween the “bunk” technique (blockbau) and the “column” one (standerbau). Practically, whole trunks and timbers are surmounted and flanked by a system of crossings and slots. So perfect that the whole frame has been holding out for hundreds of years.
