Il film, che ritrae le opere e la vita del grande fotografo brasiliano Sebastião Salgado, è stato presentato in concorso al Festival internazionale del cinema di San Sebastián 2014 e al Festival internazionale del film di Roma 2014.
Sebastião Salgado, dopo essersi laureato in economia, nel 1969 lascia il Brasile del regime militare e si trasferisce con la moglie in Europa dove inizia a lavorare per l'Organizzazione internazionale del caffè. Per lavoro viaggia molto e, grazie alla moglie, comincia a sviluppare un interesse nei confronti della fotografia, al punto che nel 1973 abbandona una promettente carriera come economista per dedicarsi totalmente alla fotografia. I primi reportage di rilievo internazionale riguardano l'Africa.
Nel documentario vengono approfonditi in particolare i suoi progetti, poi pubblicati su libri, sull'America Latina (The Other Americas), sulle drammatiche condizioni dei popoli africani (Sahel: The End of the Road), sulle condizioni dei lavoratori in giro per il mondo (Workers), sulle grandi migrazioni umane (Migrations) ed infine sugli angoli del pianeta non ancora contaminati dalla modernità (Genesis). Salgado racconta anche del progetto che porta avanti assieme alla moglie di riforestazione della Mata Atlantica.

The film, which portrays the works and life of the great Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, was presented in competition at the 2014 San Sebastián International Film Festival and the 2014 Rome Film Festival.
Sebastião Salgado, after graduating in economics, left Brazil under the military regime in 1969 and moved to Europe with his wife, where he began working for the International Coffee Organization. He travels extensively for work and, thanks to his wife, starts to develop an interest in photography, to the point that in 1973 he abandons a promising career as an economist to fully dedicate himself to photography. His first internationally significant reports concern Africa.
The documentary particularly delves into his projects, later published in books, on Latin America (The Other Americas), on the dramatic conditions of African peoples (Sahel: The End of the Road), on the conditions of workers around the world (Workers), on large human migrations (Migrations), and finally on the corners of the planet that are not yet contaminated by modernity (Genesis). Salgado also talks about the reforestation project he is carrying out with his wife in the Atlantic Forest.

Der Film, der die Werke und das Leben des großen brasilianischen Fotografen Sebastião Salgado zeigt, wurde im Wettbewerb des Internationalen Filmfestivals von San Sebastián 2014 und des Internationalen Filmfestivals von Rom 2014 vorgestellt.
Sebastião Salgado, der nach seinem Abschluss in Wirtschaftswissenschaften 1969 das Brasilien des Militärregimes verlässt, zieht mit seiner Frau nach Europa, wo er beginnt, für die Internationale Kaffeeorganisation zu arbeiten. Aufgrund seiner beruflichen Reisen entwickelt er, dank seiner Frau, ein Interesse an Fotografie und gibt 1973 eine vielversprechende Karriere als Ökonom auf, um sich ganz der Fotografie zu widmen. Seine ersten international bedeutenden Reportagen betreffen Afrika.
Im Dokumentarfilm werden insbesondere seine Projekte vertieft, die später in Büchern veröffentlicht wurden, über Lateinamerika (The Other Americas), die dramatischen Bedingungen der afrikanischen Völker (Sahel: The End of the Road), die Bedingungen der Arbeiter weltweit (Workers), die großen menschlichen Migrationen (Migrations) und schließlich über die noch nicht von der Modernität kontaminierten Winkel des Planeten (Genesis). Salgado erzählt auch von dem Projekt zur Aufforstung der Mata Atlantica, das er gemeinsam mit seiner Frau vorantreibt.
