Inventato cent’anni fa dallo scienziato sovietico Lev Termen, il theremin si suona con delicati e precisi movimenti delle mani che non toccano mai lo strumento ma fluttuano nell'aria. Difficile suonare l'invisibile, pochissimi al mondo i musicisti che riescono a farlo: Leo Virgili è uno di questi. Con la complicità del pianoforte di Giovanna Pezzetta e della voce recitante di Giuliana Musso, il concerto attraversa tutto il repertorio interpretabile con il Theremin e si alterna a parole e racconti che inseguono i viaggi, le invenzioni, i segreti e gli amori del suo inventore. Una vita, quella di Lev Termen, che a sua volta ci racconta un Novecento teso e conteso tra Unione Sovietica e Stati Uniti d'America, tra scienza, tecnologia, politica ed arte.

There are no keys, strings, levers, bows, pedals, only hands suspended in the void. Hanging onto sound. A music that emerges from the invisible and resembles the human voice.” The theremin is the first electronic instrument in history. Invented one hundred years ago by the Soviet scientist Lev Termen, the theremin is played with delicate and precise movements of the hands that never touch the instrument but float in the air. It's difficult to play the invisible; there are very few musicians in the world who can do it: Leo Virgili is one of them. With the collaboration of Giovanna Pezzetta's piano and Giuliana Musso's reciting voice, the concert explores the entire repertoire that can be interpreted with the theremin and alternates with words and stories that chase the journeys, inventions, secrets, and loves of its inventor. A life, that of Lev Termen, which in turn tells us of a twentieth century stretched and contested between the Soviet Union and the United States of America, between science, technology, politics, and art.

Vor hundert Jahren vom sowjetischen Wissenschaftler Lev Termen erfunden, wird das Theremin mit zarten und präzisen Bewegungen der Hände gespielt, die das Instrument niemals berühren, sondern in der Luft schweben. Es ist schwierig, das Unsichtbare zu spielen, nur sehr wenige Musiker weltweit schaffen es: Leo Virgili ist einer von ihnen. Mit der Unterstützung des Klaviers von Giovanna Pezzetta und der rezitierenden Stimme von Giuliana Musso durchquert das Konzert das gesamte Repertoire, das mit dem Theremin interpretiert werden kann und wechselt sich ab mit Worten und Geschichten, die die Reisen, die Erfindungen, die Geheimnisse und die Lieben seines Erfinders nachverfolgen. Ein Leben, das von Lev Termen erzählt wird, das uns wiederum von einem zwanzigsten Jahrhundert erzählt, das zwischen der Sowjetunion und den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, zwischen Wissenschaft, Technologie, Politik und Kunst angespannt und umstritten war.
