Terzo appuntamento con il ciclo di incontri Gli autori della porta accanto. Incontro con l'autore di La luce di Van Gogh Giancarlo Bruzzolo, in dialogo con il coautore Virginie Santamas e con Andrea Nardin.
Pascal Benoit fa l’inviato di guerra per un network americano con sede a Londra. A vent’anni è volato via dal suo paesino del sud della Francia, senza ripensamenti, determinato a realizzare il suo sogno. Ha lasciato dietro a sé, tutto: la sua vita di ragazzino, legami importanti d’amicizia e di amore, mettendo in secondo piano anche la famiglia. Torna in paese sempre più raramente e lo fa malvolentieri, alimentando un malessere crescente nel rapporto coi suoi. Durante un reportage, Pascal viene ferito accidentalmente. Ha bisogno di assistenza. Vivendo solo, è costretto, suo malgrado, a ricorrere all’aiuto dei suoi genitori. Dopo tre anni di assenza, rimette piede in quei luoghi, diventati ormai quasi estranei. Il ritorno gli riserverà, imprevedibilmente, un risveglio di sensazioni positive, una riscoperta e una rivalutazione di luoghi, ricordi, sentimenti. Combatte contro questo suo groviglio sentimentale. Vorrebbe continuare a provare la stessa avversione di sempre, ma tanti sono gli avvenimenti che arriveranno a destabilizzare le sue consolidate sicurezze.

Third meeting of the series The Authors Next Door. Meeting with the author of The Light of Van Gogh Giancarlo Bruzzolo, in dialogue with co-author Virginie Santamas and Andrea Nardin.
Pascal Benoit is a war correspondent for an American network based in London. At twenty, he flew away from his small town in southern France, without second thoughts, determined to fulfill his dream. He left everything behind: his boyhood life, important friendships and romances, even putting family on the back burner. He returns to his hometown less and less often and does so reluctantly, fueling a growing discomfort in his relationship with his parents. During a report, Pascal is accidentally injured. He needs assistance. Living alone, he is reluctantly forced to seek help from his parents. After three years of absence, he steps back into those places, now almost strangers to him. The return will unexpectedly bring a revival of positive feelings, a rediscovery and reassessment of places, memories, and emotions. He struggles against this emotional tangle. He would like to continue feeling the same aversion as always, but many events will come to destabilize his established certainties.

Pascal Benoit ist Kriegsreporter für ein amerikanisches Netzwerk mit Sitz in London. Mit zwanzig Jahren ist er von seinem Dorf im Süden Frankreichs geflogen, ohne zu zögern, entschlossen, seinen Traum zu verwirklichen. Er hat alles hinter sich gelassen: sein Leben als Junge, wichtige Freundschaften und Liebesbeziehungen, auch die Familie in den Hintergrund gedrängt. Er kehrt immer seltener in sein Heimatdorf zurück und tut dies unwillig, was sein Unwohlsein in der Beziehung zu seinen Eltern verstärkt. Während eines Berichts wird Pascal versehentlich verletzt. Er benötigt Hilfe. Als Einzelgänger ist er gezwungen, widerwillig auf die Unterstützung seiner Eltern zurückzugreifen. Nach drei Jahren Abwesenheit betritt er erneut diese Orte, die mittlerweile fast fremd geworden sind. Die Rückkehr wird ihm unerwartet ein Erwachen positiver Empfindungen, eine Wiederentdeckung und eine Neubewertung von Orten, Erinnerungen und Gefühlen bescheren. Er kämpft gegen dieses Gefühlschaos an. Er möchte weiterhin die gleiche Abneigung wie früher empfinden, aber viele Ereignisse werden seine festgefügten Sicherheiten ins Wanken bringen.
