Giovedì 22 gennaio 2026 alle ore 18, presso la sede dell’Associazione culturale Minelliana (piazza San Bortolo, Rovigo – primo chiostro del Monastero di San Bartolomeo), si terrà l’incontro La società russa di ieri e di oggi, una conversazione con Loris Marcucci, dedicata alla comprensione delle profonde trasformazioni che hanno attraversato la Russia dalla fine dell’Unione Sovietica fino al presente.
L’iniziativa si inserisce nel ciclo “Cose di questo mondo” e propone una riflessione storica e culturale su un paese che continua a interrogare l’Europa e l’opinione pubblica internazionale. Il punto di partenza è il crollo dell’URSS, simbolicamente segnato il 25 dicembre 1991 dall’ammainamento della bandiera sovietica sul Cremlino, e l’avvio di una transizione complessa, segnata da riforme incompiute, crisi economiche, conflitti interni e profonde fratture sociali.
Loris Marcucci, dottore di ricerca in Scienze storiche presso l’Università di Bologna, ha svolto attività di ricerca presso l’Università statale di Mosca e l’Accademia delle Scienze, maturando una conoscenza diretta e approfondita del contesto russo. Alla ricerca accademica affianca una lunga esperienza professionale che lo ha portato a confrontarsi concretamente con la realtà economica e sociale del paese. Per il Mulino ha pubblicato Dieci anni che hanno sconvolto la Russia. Da Gorbacev a Putin (2002).
Nel corso dell’incontro si discuteranno i nodi centrali della transizione post-sovietica: il fallimento delle riforme “dall’alto”, le disuguaglianze prodotte dal passaggio all’economia di mercato, il disorientamento generazionale, ma anche l’emergere di nuove forme di iniziativa, di una diversa relazione tra Stato e società e di una coscienza dei diritti. Particolare attenzione sarà dedicata alla figura di Vladimir Putin, interprete di un’eredità ambivalente, tra centralizzazione del potere e inserimento della Russia nel sistema internazionale.
Un appuntamento rivolto a un pubblico ampio e trasversale, interessato a comprendere le radici storiche e sociali della Russia di oggi e a riflettere su temi che superano i confini nazionali: autorità e libertà, Stato e mercato, identità e globalizzazione.

Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 6 PM, at the headquarters of the Minelliana Cultural Association (Piazza San Bortolo, Rovigo – first cloister of the Monastery of San Bartolomeo), there will be a meeting The Russian Society of Yesterday and Today, a conversation with Loris Marcucci, dedicated to understanding the profound transformations that have traversed Russia from the end of the Soviet Union to the present.
This initiative is part of the series “Things of This World” and proposes a historical and cultural reflection on a country that continues to challenge Europe and international public opinion. The starting point is the collapse of the USSR, symbolically marked on December 25, 1991 by the lowering of the Soviet flag at the Kremlin, and the beginning of a complex transition marked by unfinished reforms, economic crises, internal conflicts, and deep social fractures.
Loris Marcucci, PhD in Historical Sciences at the University of Bologna, has conducted research at the Moscow State University and the Academy of Sciences, developing a direct and in-depth knowledge of the Russian context. Alongside academic research, he has a long professional experience that has brought him to confront the economic and social reality of the country. For il Mulino he has published Ten Years that Shook Russia. From Gorbachev to Putin (2002).
During the meeting, the central issues of the post-Soviet transition will be discussed: the failure of “top-down” reforms, the inequalities produced by the shift to a market economy, generational disorientation, but also the emergence of new forms of initiative, a different relationship between the State and society, and a consciousness of rights. Special attention will be given to the figure of Vladimir Putin, interpreter of an ambivalent legacy, between centralization of power and the integration of Russia into the international system.
This event is aimed at a wide and diverse audience, interested in understanding the historical and social roots of today’s Russia and reflecting on themes that transcend national boundaries: authority and freedom, state and market, identity and globalization.

Donnerstag, 22. Januar 2026 um 18 Uhr, in der Sitzung der Kulturvereinigung Minelliana (Piazza San Bortolo, Rovigo – erster Kreuzgang des Klosters San Bartolomeo), findet das Treffen Die russische Gesellschaft von gestern und heute statt, ein Gespräch mit Loris Marcucci, das dem Verständnis der tiefen Veränderungen gewidmet ist, die Russland seit dem Ende der Sowjetunion bis heute durchlaufen hat.
Die Initiative ist Teil des Zyklus „Dinge dieser Welt” und bietet eine historische und kulturelle Reflexion über ein Land, das Europa und die internationale Öffentlichkeit weiterhin herausfordert. Ausgangspunkt ist der Zusammenbruch der UdSSR, symbolisch markiert am 25. Dezember 1991 durch das Senken der sowjetischen Flagge über dem Kreml, und der Beginn eines komplexen Übergangs, geprägt von unvollendeten Reformen, Wirtschaftskrisen, inneren Konflikten und tiefen sozialen Brüchen.
Loris Marcucci, Doktor der Geschichtswissenschaften an der Universität Bologna, hat Forschungsaktivitäten an der Staatlichen Universität Moskau und der Akademie der Wissenschaften durchgeführt und dabei ein direktes und vertieftes Wissen über den russischen Kontext erlangt. Neben der akademischen Forschung hat er eine lange berufliche Erfahrung gesammelt, die ihn dazu gebracht hat, sich konkret mit der wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Realität des Landes auseinanderzusetzen. Für il Mulino hat er Zehn Jahre, die Russland erschütterten. Von Gorbatschow bis Putin (2002) veröffentlicht.
Im Verlauf des Treffens werden die zentralen Knotenpunkte des postsowjetischen Übergangs diskutiert: das Scheitern von „oberen” Reformen, die Ungleichheiten, die durch den Übergang zur Marktwirtschaft entstanden sind, die generationale Orientierungslosigkeit, aber auch das Aufkommen neuer Formen von Initiative, ein anderes Verhältnis zwischen Staat und Gesellschaft und ein Bewusstsein für Rechte. Besonders Augenmerk wird auf die Figur von Wladimir Putin gelegt, den Interpreten eines ambivalenten Erbes zwischen Zentralisierung der Macht und der Eingliederung Russlands in das internationale System.
Ein Termin, der sich an ein breites und vielfältiges Publikum richtet, das an einem Verständnis der historischen und sozialen Wurzeln des heutigen Russlands interessiert ist und über Themen nachdenken möchte, die über nationale Grenzen hinausgehen: Autorität und Freiheit, Staat und Markt, Identität und Globalisierung.
