"El Lèch di Giài", è una gemma d'inteso cobalto incastonata tra le alte montagne del M. Alto (Auta) 2545 m e della Crepa Rossa 2360 m.
Si tratta di un piccolo bacino di origine naturale che occupa una conca scavata da un antico ghiacciaio e sbarrata a nord da una frana scoscesa dai versanti orientali; trae alimento dai nevai sulle crode.
Punto di partenza area picnic sopra Sottoguda dal sentiero CAI n. 688 che attraverso i verdi pascoli di Franzèi , un singolare alloggio di fienili dominato dal ripido piano del M. Alto.
Oltrepassato tale altipiano, saliremo più precisamente per la Val Miniera, dove le numerose marmotte con i loro vivaci fischi ci terranno compagnia, finchè non giungeremo alla sella che fa da sponda al lago, mèta di questo itinerario.
La pace di questo luogo incantevole ispirò la leggenda delle "Eivane del Lèch di Giai", meravigliose fanciulle che volevano fare il bagno in questo angolo di paradiso. Piuttosto schive non sarà facile scorgerle, ma di certo potremo vedere riflessa nello specchio d'acqua la sovrastante Forcella di Giai, dalla quale con una breve salita, si aprirà una magnifica veduta verso sud e verso la sottostante Val Biois.
Volendo effettuare un percorso ad anello è possibile il rientro attraverso Malga la Busa seguendo il sentiero CAI n 687 fino in località Malga Ciapela.
The lake called Lèch di Giài, is a gem of deep cobalt blue set between by the lofty peaks of Mount Alto (Auta), 2545m, and Crepa Rossa, 2360m.
This small natural basin is located in a hollow carved out by an ancient glacier. The lake is hemmed in to the north by a steep mass of rocks deposited by a landslide with east-facing slopes and the lake is fed by the melting of the craggy snowfields above it.
The departure point is the picnic area above Sottoguda, taking CAI trail no. 688 that crosses the green pasturelands of Franzèi, dotted with picturesque haylofts above which towers the steep high plateau of Mount Alto.
Once past this high plateau, we head upwards for Val Miniera, where the many Alpine marmots with their lively whistling noises keep us company until we reach the saddle forming a bank of the lake, the destination of our hike.
The utter peace and magical atmosphere of this place inspired the legend of Le Ondine del Lèch di Giai, fabulous water nymphs who would bathe in this little corner of Paradise. They are somewhat shy so it isn’t easy to catch a glimpse of them but we can definitely see the reflection in the water of the pass known as Forcella di Giai above us from which, after a short uphill stretch we are greeted with a magnificent view to the south and over the Val Biois below us.
It is possible to came back on a ring-shaped trail till Malga la Busa on CAI trail no. 687 leading to Malga Ciapela.
