More about the museum… The Museo Gypsotheca Antonio Canova in Possagno is the unique place that holds Canova’s historical and artistic heritage (Possagno, 1757 – Venice, 1822). The Museum Complex. One of the first of its kind in the Veneto region, includes the Birth House and the Gypsotheca, which is distributed between the original Basilica (1836) and the structure added by architect Carlo Scarpa (1957). The latter holds the original plaster models that serve as the starting point for the marble replicas now exhibited in the most important museums around the world. The Birth House hosts the artist’s paintings, drawings, engravings, and personal belongings.
In addition to the Birth House and the Gypsotheca, the Museum complex also includes the Gemin Wing, the Archive, the Library, the Garden, and the “Brolo”. The Museum offers its visitors a variety of experiences: from guided tours and educational workshops to candle light night visits.
