È stata edificata ex-novo dopo i bombardamenti del 1944 che distrussero completamente la precedente chiesa collegata al monastero di San Pietro de Conflentu. All’in-terno è conservato il celebre Labirinto del XII secolo, una lastra di pietra arenaria scolpita che raffigura un labirinto corredato da simboli e una iscrizione.
Il labirinto, simbolo che nel Medioevo richiamava il pellegrinaggio e la via tortuosa alla ricerca della salvezza, è presente in numerosi luoghi lungo la via Francigena (simile a quello di Pontre-moliè, ad esempio, il labirinto posto sulla facciata del Duomo di San Martino a Lucca).
The Saint Peter’s Church was built ex-novo, after the bombing in 1944 completely destroyed the previous church connected to the monastery of San Pietro de Conflentu. Inside the church the famous Labyrinth of the twelfth century is kept, a carved sandstone slabre presenting a labyrinth with symbols and one inscription.
During the Middle Age period, the labyrinth was the symbol of the pilgrimage and the tortuous way to reach salvation. Today, the labyrinth is present in various places along the Via Francigena.
You can find one similar to the labyrinth of Pontremoli on the façade of the Cathedral San Martino in Lucca.
