Nella conferenza si presenta in anteprima il volume di Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo, curato in collaborazione con Cristina Farnetti, sui Dipinti erotici di Lavinia Fontana (Erotic Paintings. Paul Holberton editore, Londra 2026).
In esso si analizza la produzione in questo settore diuna ormai celeberrima pittrice bolognese attiva tra l’inizio degli anni ’70 del ‘500 e il 1614 della morte, avvenuta a Roma.
Fu un’artista versatile, infaticabile, specializzata in ritratti e opere devozionali, ma anche in dipinti profani che interpretò con una eccezionale libertà di approccio.
Dopo alcuni cenni biografici e qualche informazione sui contesti da lei frequentati, la ricerca si concentra in particolare su Tre dame nude dipinte su ardesia (sulla cui identità è possibile avanzare un’ipotesi sorprendente) e su un Venere e Marte in Palazzo Liria a Madrid, in cui quest’ultimo si permette di ‘accarezzare’ il sedere della dea.
Questo dettaglio apre la ricerca al tema – fino ad oggi trascurato - della rinascita figurativa cinquecentesca della classica Venere Callipigia (ossia ‘dalle belle natiche’), indagandone le premesse letterarie ed archeologiche.
Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo è professore associato di Storia dell’Arte Moderna presso l’Università di Verona, dove insegna Storia dell’Arte Moderna.
Si occupa prevalentemente di pittura veneta dell’età rinascimentale e barocca.
Ha pubblicato numerosi contributi scientifici e ha curato vari convegni – tra cui quello su Marco Boschini a Verona nel 2014, per conto della Regione del Veneto - e mostre, a Venezia (Palazzo Ducale, Museo Correr), Roma (Palazzo Venezia, Castel Sant’Angelo), Londra (National Gallery) e Madrid (Museo del Prado).
Nel 2009 ha curato la mostra su Giorgione a Castelfranco Veneto.
Scrive su Repubblica e ha collaborato con la Rai e la BBC.
Dal 2025 al 2027 è consulente della Camera dei Deputati per il patrimonio storico-artistico di Montecitorio.
The conference will present in preview the volume by Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo, edited in collaboration with Cristina Farnetti, on the Erotic Paintings of Lavinia Fontana (Erotic Paintings. Paul Holberton publisher, London 2026).
It analyzes the production in this sector of a now famous Bolognese painter active from the early 1570s until her death in 1614, which occurred in Rome.
She was a versatile, tireless artist, specialized in portraits and devotional works, but also in profane paintings that she interpreted with exceptional freedom of approach.
After some biographical notes and some information about the contexts she frequented, the research focuses in particular on Three Nude Ladies painted on slate (regarding whose identity a surprising hypothesis can be put forward) and on a Venus and Mars in Palazzo Liria in Madrid, in which the latter dares to 'caress' the backside of the goddess.
This detail opens the research to the theme – up to now neglected – of the figurative renaissance of the classical Venus Callipyge (meaning 'of the beautiful buttocks'), investigating its literary and archaeological premises.
Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo is an associate professor of Modern Art History at the University of Verona, where he teaches Modern Art History.
He mainly deals with Venetian painting of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
He has published numerous scientific contributions and has organized various conferences – including one on Marco Boschini in Verona in 2014, on behalf of the Veneto Region – and exhibitions, in Venice (Doge's Palace, Correr Museum), Rome (Palazzo Venezia, Castel Sant'Angelo), London (National Gallery), and Madrid (Prado Museum).
In 2009, he curated the exhibition on Giorgione in Castelfranco Veneto.
He writes for Repubblica and has collaborated with Rai and the BBC.
From 2025 to 2027, he is a consultant to the Chamber of Deputies for the historical-artistic heritage of Montecitorio.
Bei der Konferenz wird der Band von Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo vorgestellt, der in Zusammenarbeit mit Cristina Farnetti über die erotischen Gemälde von Lavinia Fontana (Erotic Paintings. Paul Holberton Verlag, London 2026) erstellt wurde.
In ihm wird die Produktion in diesem Bereich einer mittlerweile berühmten Bologneser Malerin analysiert, die von Anfang der 70er Jahre des 16. Jahrhunderts bis zu ihrem Tod im Jahr 1614 in Rom aktiv war.
Sie war eine vielseitige, unermüdliche Künstlerin, die sich auf Porträts und devotional Werke spezialisiert hatte, aber auch profane Gemälde mit außergewöhnlicher Freiheit in der Herangehensweise interpretierte.
Nach einigen biografischen Anmerkungen und Informationen zu den Kontexten, die sie frequentierte, konzentriert sich die Forschung insbesondere auf Drei nackte Damen, die auf Schiefer gemalt wurden (zu deren Identität eine überraschende Hypothese aufgestellt werden kann) und auf eine Venus und Mars im Palazzo Liria in Madrid, in dem letzterer es sich erlaubt, den Po der Göttin zu ‘streicheln’.
Dieses Detail öffnet die Forschung dem Thema – bis heute vernachlässigt – der figurativen Wiedergeburt der klassischen Venus Callipigia (d.h. ‘von den schönen Hinterteilen’), indem die literarischen und archäologischen Voraussetzungen untersucht werden.
Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo ist außerordentlicher Professor für Kunstgeschichte der Neuzeit an der Universität Verona, wo er Kunstgeschichte der Neuzeit lehrt.
Er beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit der venezianischen Malerei der Renaissance und des Barocks.
Er hat zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Beiträge veröffentlicht und verschiedene Konferenzen – darunter die über Marco Boschini in Verona im Jahr 2014 im Auftrag der Region Venetien – sowie Ausstellungen in Venedig (Palazzo Ducale, Museo Correr), Rom (Palazzo Venezia, Castel Sant’Angelo), London (National Gallery) und Madrid (Museo del Prado) kuratiert.
