La mostra “Suffragette italiane verso la cittadinanza (1861-1946)”, con i documenti dell’Archivio Storico dell’Unione Femminile Nazionale e della Fondazione Anna Kuliscioff, rappresenta un viaggio nella storia dell’emancipazione femminile, ripercorrendo le battaglie civili, culturali e politiche che hanno portato le donne italiane e non solo alla conquista del diritto di voto e al riconoscimento della piena cittadinanza. Attraverso documenti storici, fotografie, manifesti, lettere, articoli di giornale e testimonianze dell’epoca, l’esposizione restituisce voce e dignità alle protagoniste di una lunga lotta per l’uguaglianza, spesso dimenticata o poco raccontata nei libri di storia.
Il percorso espositivo prende avvio dal 1861, anno dell’Unità d’Italia, quando le donne erano escluse dalla vita politica e dai principali diritti civili. In un contesto sociale fortemente patriarcale, molte figure femminili iniziarono però a promuovere idee innovative legate all’istruzione, al lavoro, all’autonomia economica e alla partecipazione pubblica. La mostra mette in luce il ruolo delle prime associazioni femminili e delle attiviste che, con coraggio e determinazione, aprirono la strada al movimento suffragista italiano, ispirandosi anche alle esperienze europee e internazionali.
Particolare attenzione viene dedicata al periodo tra la fine dell’Ottocento e la prima metà del Novecento, anni cruciali in cui le donne italiane parteciparono attivamente ai cambiamenti sociali del Paese. Durante le due guerre mondiali, infatti, il contributo femminile al lavoro, all’assistenza e alla resistenza civile divenne fondamentale, rafforzando la richiesta di riconoscimento politico e democratico. Il percorso culmina nel 1946, anno storico in cui le donne votarono per la prima volta alle elezioni amministrative e al referendum istituzionale che sancì la nascita della Repubblica Italiana.
Oltre al valore storico, la mostra invita a una riflessione contemporanea sui diritti, sulla partecipazione democratica e sul ruolo delle donne nella società di oggi.
“Suffragette italiane verso la cittadinanza (1861-1946)” non è soltanto una ricostruzione del passato, ma anche un’occasione per comprendere quanto le conquiste civili siano il risultato di impegno, sacrificio e perseveranza. L’esposizione offre quindi al pubblico un’esperienza culturale intensa e coinvolgente, capace di unire memoria storica e attualità in un dialogo aperto tra generazioni.
La mostra sarà esposta a Palazzo Reale a Crespano di Pieve del Grappa dal 25 maggio al 5 giugno 2026 con i seguenti orari: lunedì-venerdìore 15-19 e mercoledìore 9-12 e 15-19.
La mostra verrà inaugurata sabato 23 maggio alle ore 17:30.
The exhibition “Italian Suffragettes Towards Citizenship (1861-1946)”, featuring documents from the Historical Archive of the National Female Union and the Anna Kuliscioff Foundation, represents a journey into the history of female emancipation, retracing the civil, cultural, and political struggles that led Italian women and others to the conquest of the right to vote and the recognition of full citizenship. Through historical documents, photographs, posters, letters, newspaper articles, and testimonies from the era, the exhibition gives voice and dignity back to the protagonists of a long struggle for equality, often forgotten or little told in history books.
The exhibition pathway begins in 1861, the year of the Unification of Italy, when women were excluded from political life and the main civil rights. In a strongly patriarchal social context, however, many female figures began to promote innovative ideas related to education, work, economic autonomy, and public participation. The exhibition highlights the role of the first women’s associations and activists who, with courage and determination, paved the way for the Italian suffragist movement, also drawing inspiration from European and international experiences.
Particular attention is given to the period between the end of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, crucial years in which Italian women actively participated in the country’s social changes. During the two world wars, in fact, the female contribution to work, assistance, and civil resistance became fundamental, reinforcing the demand for political and democratic recognition. The pathway culminates in 1946, a historic year when women voted for the first time in local elections and in the constitutional referendum that marked the birth of the Italian Republic.
Beyond its historical value, the exhibition invites contemporary reflection on rights, democratic participation, and the role of women in today’s society.
“Italian Suffragettes Towards Citizenship (1861-1946)” is not only a reconstruction of the past but also an opportunity to understand how civil achievements are the result of commitment, sacrifice, and perseverance. The exhibition therefore offers the public an intense and engaging cultural experience, capable of uniting historical memory and current affairs in an open dialogue between generations.
The exhibition will be held at Palazzo Reale in Crespano di Pieve del Grappa from May 25 to June 5, 2026, with the following hours: Monday-Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Die Ausstellung „Italienische Suffragetten auf dem Weg zur Staatsbürgerschaft (1861-1946)“, mit Dokumenten aus dem Historischen Archiv der Nationalen Frauenvereinigung und der Anna Kuliscioff Stiftung, stellt eine Reise in die Geschichte der Emanzipation der Frauen dar und verfolgt die zivilen, kulturellen und politischen Kämpfe, die den italienischen Frauen und nicht nur den italienischen Frauen das Wahlrecht und die Anerkennung der vollen staatsbürgerlichen Rechte verschafften. Durch historische Dokumente, Fotografien, Plakate, Briefe, Zeitungsartikel und Zeitzeugenberichte aus der Epoche gibt die Ausstellung den Protagonistinnen eines langen Kampfes um Gleichheit, der oft in Geschichtsbüchern vergessen oder wenig erzählt wird, eine Stimme und Würde zurück.
Der Ausstellungsweg beginnt im Jahr 1861, dem Jahr der Einigung Italiens, als Frauen von der politischen Beteiligung und den wesentlichen bürgerlichen Rechten ausgeschlossen waren. In einem stark patriarchalischen sozialen Kontext begannen jedoch viele Frauenfiguren, innovative Ideen im Zusammenhang mit Bildung, Arbeit, wirtschaftlicher Autonomie und öffentlicher Teilnahme zu fördern. Die Ausstellung hebt die Rolle der ersten Frauenverbände und der Aktivistinnen hervor, die mit Mut und Entschlossenheit den Weg zur italienischen Suffragettenbewegung ebneten, inspiriert auch von europäischen und internationalen Erfahrungen.
Besonderes Augenmerk gilt der Zeit zwischen dem Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts, entscheidenden Jahren, in denen italienische Frauen aktiv an den sozialen Veränderungen im Land teilnahmen. Tatsächlich wurde während der beiden Weltkriege der Beitrag der Frauen zur Arbeit, zur Assistenz und zum zivilen Widerstand entscheidend und verstärkte die Forderung nach politischer und demokrat. Anerkennung. Der Weg mündet im Jahr 1946, einem historischen Jahr, in dem Frauen zum ersten Mal an den Gemeinderatswahlen und an dem Referendum über die Gründung der Italienischen Republik teilnahmen.
Neben dem historischen Wert lädt die Ausstellung zu einer zeitgenössischen Reflexion über Rechte, demokratische Beteiligung und die Rolle der Frauen in der heutigen Gesellschaft ein.
„Italienische Suffragetten auf dem Weg zur Staatsbürgerschaft (1861-1946)“ ist nicht nur eine Rekonstruktion der Vergangenheit, sondern auch eine Gelegenheit, zu verstehen, wie zivilisatorische Errungenschaften das Ergebnis von Engagement, Opferbereitschaft und Durchhaltevermögen sind. Die Ausstellung bietet dem Publikum daher ein intensives und fesselndes kulturelles Erlebnis, das historische Erinnerung und Gegenwart in einen offenen Dialog zwischen den Generationen vereint.
Die Ausstellung wird vom 25. Mai bis 5. Juni 2026 im Palazzo Reale in Crespano di Pieve del Grappa mit folgenden Zeiten gezeigt: Montag-Freitag von 15-19 Uhr und Mittwoch von 9-12 Uhr und 15-19 Uhr.
Die Eröffnung der Ausstellung findet am Samstag, dem 23. Mai, um 5:30 p.m. statt.
