Dallo straordinario romanzo di Carlo Sgorlon, Sandro Buzzatti ripercorre la vicenda di Benedetto Polo che torna, dopo gli anni americani, nella sua terra
natale, l'Istria. Ma ormai il seme del nazionalismo ha fatto esplodere le divisioni: dove prima si dicevano istriani ora si chiamano italiani o slavi. La lingua, le lontane origini, i cognomi ... tutto diventa motivo di separazione. O meglio pretesto per dividere e per consumare vendette che la guerra aveva reso “urgenti”. È il seme del nazionalismo cieco e ideologico che porta “la guerra dentro la pace”, prolungando in terra istriana le vendette e gli eccidi che dopo il '45 si speravano consegnati al passato. Un racconto incalzante, intenso, che ci porta dentro quelle comunità sconvolte dalla paura delle foibe, dal
terrore delle vendette e dalle divisioni portate a più riprese in pochi anni nella dolce terra d'Istria. Una interpretazione, quella di Sandro Buzzatti, che restituisce il clima, il sapore e i colori di una terra e del terrore che l'ha attraversata

THE GREAT FOIBA
From the extraordinary novel by Carlo Sgorlon, Sandro Buzzatti retraces the story of Benedetto Polo who returns, after his years in America, to his homeland, Istria. But by now the seed of nationalism has exploded the divisions: where they used to be called Istrians, now they are referred to as Italians or Slavs. The language, the distant origins, the surnames... everything becomes a reason for separation. Or rather, a pretext for dividing and for avenging that the war had made "urgent." It is the seed of blind and ideological nationalism that brings "the war into peace," prolonging in Istrian land the vendettas and massacres that after '45 were hoped to be left in the past. An intense, gripping tale that takes us inside those communities shaken by the fear of the foibe, by the terror of revenge and by the divisions repeatedly imposed in just a few years in the sweet land of Istria. An interpretation by Sandro Buzzatti that restores the atmosphere, the flavor, and the colors of a land and the terror that has traversed it.

Aus dem außergewöhnlichen Roman von Carlo Sgorlon nimmt Sandro Buzzatti die Geschichte von Benedetto Polo wieder auf, der nach seinen amerikanischen Jahren in seine Heimat,
die Istrien, zurückkehrt. Doch inzwischen hat der Samen des Nationalismus die Spaltungen explodieren lassen: Wo man früher Istrier sagte, nennt man sich jetzt Italiener oder Slawen. Die Sprache, die fernen Ursprünge, die Nachnamen ... alles wird zum Grund für die Trennung. Oder besser gesagt, zum Vorwand, um zu teilen und Racheakte zu vollziehen, die der Krieg "dringlich" gemacht hatte. Es ist der Samen des blinden und ideologischen Nationalismus, der “den Krieg in den Frieden” bringt, und die Racheakte und Massaker, die man nach '45 hoffte, hinter sich gelassen zu haben, in der istrischen Erde verlängert. Eine aufregende, intensive Erzählung, die uns in diese Gemeinschaften hineinführt, die von der Angst vor den Foiben, vom
Schreck der Racheakte und von den Spaltungen, die in wenigen Jahren mehrmals in das süße Land Istrien gebracht wurden, erschüttert werden. Eine Interpretation von Sandro Buzzatti, die das Klima, den Geschmack und die Farben eines Landes und des Terrors, der es durchzogen hat, zurückgibt.
