In August, in Rome, Aurora finds herself unemployed, with an overdrawn account and a life on the brink of collapse. The death of Andrea, a friend from the past, forces her to return to the low Veneto town she fled from years earlier, initially intending to stay only two days. But the return soon transforms into an inevitable confrontation with her origins.
Surrounded by fields, fog, and a family incapable of understanding her, Aurora is faced with a long-suppressed anger, the lies built to survive, and the open wounds that remain. To confront the past, she chooses to transform herself into exactly what she has always despised.
With Malefica, Nicole Trevisan delivers an intense and sharp novel, capable of alternating hardness and tenderness, giving voice to a displaced generation and its contradictions through a raw and deeply human perspective.
