La gara è sempre stata l'anima delle feste popolari estive. Prima consisteva nell'arrapicarsi su un alto palo di legno conficcato saldamente nel terreno, alla sommità del quale erano appesi dei trofei, solitamente di tipo alimentare come salami o prosciutti.
Essendo un popolo di lago, gli abitanti di Lazise hanno trasformato il palo verticale in un palo orizzontale ben igrassata posto sull'angolo del porto antico con una bandiera all'estremità, la quale bisogna staccare e tenere in mano durante il conseguente tuffo in acqua per poter reclamare il premio.
Questa gara è diventata una delle manifestazioni più caratteristiche di Lazise e del lago e consiste nel percorrere di corsa il palo, impregnato di grasso, a piedi nudi per riuscire a staccare la bandierina collocata sulla punta. Da sempre i buteloti, i giovanotti di Lazise, amano cimentarsi in questa gara, esilarante per i spettatori ma non sempre indolore per i partecipanti.
The competition has always been the heart of summer folk festivals. It originally consisted of climbing a tall wooden pole firmly planted in the ground, at the top of which trophies were hung, usually food items like salamis or hams.
Being a lakeside people, the inhabitants of Lazise have transformed the vertical pole into a well-greased horizontal pole positioned at the corner of the ancient port with a flag at the end, which must be detached and held in hand during the subsequent plunge into the water to claim the prize.
This competition has become one of the most characteristic events of Lazise and the lake and consists of running along the greasy pole, barefoot to successfully detach the flag located at the tip. The buteloti, the young men of Lazise, have always loved to take on this challenge, exhilarating for the spectators but not always painless for the participants.
Das Rennen war schon immer die Seele der volkstümlichen Sommerfeste. Zunächst bestand es darin, sich an einem hohen Holzpfahl, der fest im Boden verankert war, hochzuziehen, an dessen Spitze Trophäen hingen, normalerweise in Form von Lebensmitteln wie Salami oder Schinken.
