Percorrendo Piazza Indipendenza, la piazza principale della città, si coglie subito il carattere veneto dei suoi edifici. I portici e le cornici in pietra d’Istria delle finestre rivelano lo stretto rapporto che in passato l’aristocrazia veneziana aveva con il paese di Latisana.
L’edificio che si impone al centro della piazza, Palazzo Trevisan, è stato ricostruito al posto dell’antico palazzo Vendramin, distrutto durante l’ultima guerra.
L’attuale pavimentazione ed illuminazione della piazza sono state progettate dall’architetto Gigetta Tamaro: le liste di pietra bianca mettono in evidenza la strana geometria della piazza, allineandosi poi al cippo in memoria dei caduti del Risorgimento posto al centro, da cui il nome Indipendenza.
Walking along Piazza Indipendenza, the city’s main square, the Venetian character of its buildings is instantly visible. The porticoes and window frames made of Istrian stone reveal the close relationship that the Venetian aristocracy had with the town of Latisana in the past.
The building that stands out in the centre of the square, Palazzo Trevisan, was rebuilt in place of the historic Palazzo Vendramin, which was destroyed during the last war.
The piazza’s current paving and lighting were designed by the architect Gigetta Tamaro: the white stone bands highlight the piazza’s strange geometry, as they align with the memorial stone commemorating the fallen of the Risorgimento in the centre, hence the name “Indipendenza”.
Wenn man Piazza Indipendenza, dem Hauptplatz der Stadt, überquert, kann man sofort den venezianischen Charakter seiner Gebäude erfassen. Die Arkaden und die Fensterrahmen aus Istrischem Stein enthüllen die enge Beziehung, die der venezianische Adel in der Vergangenheit mit der Stadt Latisana hatte.
Das Gebäude, das in der Mitte des Platzes hervorsticht, der Trevisan Palast, wurde anstelle des antiken Vendramin Palastes wieder aufgebaut, der im letzten Krieg zerstört wurde.
Die aktuelle Pflasterung und Beleuchtung des Platzes wurden von der Architektin Gigetta Tamaro entworfen: Die weißen Steinstreifen betonen die seltsame Geometrie des Platzes, und fluchten dann mit dem Gedenkstein zur Erinnerung an die Gefallenen des Risorgimento, der in der Mitte platziert ist, daher der Name Indipendenza (Unabhängigkeit).
