Descrizione
Il Duomo di Latisana è dedicato a San Giovanni Battista, patrono della città, ed è il risultato del rifacimento del 1760 di un edificio precedente. All'interno del duomo si possono ammirare opere di notevole pregio, tra le quali spicca la pala del Battesimo di Gesù (1567) di Paolo Caliari, detto il Veronese (1528 - 1588), dove il grade maestro del Rinascimento rappresenta fedelmente il passo del Vangelo di Giovanni: il Battista ha appena asperso l'acqua del fiume Giordano sul capo di Gesù, il Figlio di Dio, mentre dall'alto scende su di lui lo Spirito Santo, in forma di Colomba, sotto gli occhi del Padre, che si intravede tra le nuvole.
Altra opera degna di nota è il Cristo Crocifisso, scultura lignea di Andrea Fosco da Faenza. Accanto alla chiesa si erge l'imponente campanile alto 53 metri, eretto nel 1923 su progetto dell'ingegnere Ferdinando Calligaris, in sostituzione dell'ottocentesca torre abbattuta durante la Prima guerra mondiale.
The Duomo in Latisana is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the city’s patron saint, and is the result of a reconstruction that took place in 1760 on an earlier building dating back to 1504. Inside the Duomo, you can admire works of great prestige, such as the altarpiece The Baptism of Jesus (1567) by Paolo Caliari, known as Veronese (1528-1588), in which the great Renaissance master faithfully represents the passage from the gospel of John: the Baptist has just sprinkled the water of the Jordan River on the head of Jesus, the Son of God, while the Holy Spirit descends on him from above in the form of a Dove under the eyes of the Father, who can be glimpsed between the clouds.
Another notable work is Christ Crucified, a wooden sculpture by Andrea Fosco da Faenza. Next to the church is the imposing 53-metre-high bell tower built in 1923 according to a design by the engineer Ferdinando Calligaris, to replace the nineteenth-century tower demolished during the First World War.
Die Kathedrale von Latisana ist dem Heiligen Johannes dem Täufer, dem Schutzpatron der Stadt, gewidmet. Sie ist das Ergebnis des Umbaus eines Vorgängergebäudes von 1760, das bis ins Jahr 1504 zurückreicht. Ein weiteres bedeutendes Werk, dass es hervorzuheben gilt, ist der gekreuzigte Christus, eine Holzskulptur von Andrea Fosco aus Faenza. Neben der Kirche steht der imposante 53 Meter hohe Glockenturm, der 1923 nach einem Entwurf des Ingenieurs Ferdinando Calligaris errichtet wurde, um den im Ersten Weltkrieg zerstörten Turm aus dem 19. Jahrhundert zu ersetzen.
