CLOUDS è un progetto di arte pubblica realizzato nel gennaio 2016 negli spazi verdi a sud dell’Alte Pinakothek di Monaco di Baviera, nel cuore del Kunstareal. Durante una performance scultorea, l’artista Philipp Messner trasforma tre comuni cannoni sparaneve — utilizzati normalmente nelle stazioni sciistiche — in gigantesche “bombolette spray”. Aggiungendo coloranti alimentari all’acqua, i cannoni producono neve artificiale colorata che ricopre il paesaggio con strati cristallini e cangianti.
Installati tra la Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) e l’Alte Pinakothek, i cannoni entrano in funzione solo al verificarsi di condizioni climatiche adeguate (temperature inferiori a –3 °C), rendendo l’opera imprevedibile nella forma e nel tempo. Il progetto riflette sul confine tra naturale e artificiale, invitando il pubblico a vivere e interpretare uno spazio reale ma astratto, dove percezione, materia e intervento umano si incontrano.
Lunedì 9 febbraio 2026, alle ore 19.00, l’artista Philipp Messner presenterà un’edizione legata al progetto Clouds Cortina presso la Libreria Sovilla di Cortina d’Ampezzo.
L’incontro si svolgerà in conversazione con Gianluca D’Incà Levis, curatore di Dolomiti Contemporanee.
Clouds è un progetto d’arte pubblica, che riflette sull’interazione tra naturale e artificiale, uomo e natura, a cui Messner lavora da oltre dieci anni. DC ha iniziato a ragionare su Clouds Cortina e ad attivare reti esplorative a suo favore a partire dal 2022.
CLOUDS is a public art project created in January 2016 in the green spaces south of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, in the heart of the Kunstareal. During a sculptural performance, artist Philipp Messner transforms three common snow cannons — typically used in ski resorts — into gigantic “spray cans.” By adding food coloring to the water, the cannons produce colored artificial snow that covers the landscape with crystalline and iridescent layers.
Installed between the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) and the Alte Pinakothek, the cannons only operate under appropriate weather conditions (temperatures below –3 °C), making the work unpredictable in its form and timing. The project reflects on the boundary between natural and artificial, inviting the audience to experience and interpret a real yet abstract space, where perception, matter, and human intervention intersect.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the artist Philipp Messner will present an edition related to the project Clouds Cortina at the Sovilla Bookstore in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The meeting will take place in conversation with Gianluca D’Incà Levis, curator of Dolomiti Contemporanee.
Clouds is a public art project that reflects on the interaction between natural and artificial, human and nature, which Messner has been working on for over ten years. DC began to reflect on Clouds Cortina and activate exploratory networks in its favor starting from 2022.
CLOUDS ist ein Kunstprojekt, das im Januar 2016 in den Grünanlagen südlich der Alten Pinakothek in München im Herzen des Kunstareals realisiert wurde. Während einer skulpturalen Performance verwandelt der Künstler Philipp Messner drei herkömmliche Schneekanonen – die normalerweise in Skigebieten verwendet werden – in riesige "Spraydosen". Durch das Hinzufügen von Lebensmittelfarben zum Wasser produzieren die Kanonen bunten Kunstschnee, der die Landschaft mit kristallinen und schimmernden Schichten überzieht.
Zwischen der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) und der Alten Pinakothek installiert, kommen die Kanonen nur bei geeigneten Wetterbedingungen (Temperaturen unter -3 °C) zum Einsatz, was das Werk in Form und Zeit unberechenbar macht. Das Projekt reflektiert über die Grenze zwischen Natürlich und Künstlich und lädt das Publikum ein, einen realen aber abstrakten Raum zu erleben und zu interpretieren, in dem Wahrnehmung, Materie und menschliches Eingreifen aufeinandertreffen.
Montag, 9. Februar 2026, um 19:00 Uhr, wird der Künstler Philipp Messner im Buchladen Sovilla in Cortina d’Ampezzo eine mit dem Projekt Clouds Cortina verbundene Edition vorstellen.
Das Treffen findet im Gespräch mit Gianluca D’Incà Levis, Kurator von Dolomiti Contemporanee, statt.
Clouds ist ein öffentliches Kunstprojekt, das die Interaktion zwischen Natürlich und Künstlich, Mensch und Natur reflektiert, an dem Messner seit über zehn Jahren arbeitet. DC begann 2022, über Clouds Cortina nachzudenken und explorative Netzwerke zu aktivieren.
