Dietro lo pseudonimo di Giorgio Foresto si cela Giorgio De Gaspari, classe 1927, riconosciuto come uno dei più grandi illustratori del secolo scorso, noto soprattutto per il suo lavoro per La Domenica del Corriere.
Negli anni ’70, all’apice del successo, De Gaspari sceglie l’anonimato e si ritira sull’isola di Pellestrina. Lì, in una palafitta-atelier fatiscente, vive come un eremita, barattando i suoi disegni per beni di prima necessità.
Uomo schivo, poeta, pittore, giullare e saggio, si immerge nella vita semplice della laguna, stimolato dalla fede popolare, dalle dicerie di paese e da poche, sincere amicizie.
Ora, a distanza di decenni, alcune delle sue opere – mai esposte prima – escono dalle case dei cittadini che ne avevano custodito il segreto, regalando al pubblico uno sguardo intimo sull’universo colorato e visionario di questo artista dimenticato.
La mostra accompagna l’uscita del libro illustrato per bambini “Giorgio Foresto, una vita a colori”, scritto da Giovanni Scarpa e illustrato da Anna Formaggio, edito dalla Libreria Editrice Il Leggio.
Un omaggio delicato che racconta ai più piccoli la storia di un uomo che, fuggendo il clamore della fama, ha disseminato lungo il suo cammino piccole briciole di bellezza, come in una fiaba antica.
Behind the pseudonym Giorgio Foresto lies Giorgio De Gaspari, born in 1927, recognized as one of the greatest illustrators of the last century, especially known for his work for La Domenica del Corriere.
In the 1970s, at the peak of his success, De Gaspari chooses anonymity and retreats to the island of Pellestrina. There, in a dilapidated stilt-atelier, he lives like a hermit, trading his drawings for basic necessities.
A reserved man, poet, painter, jester, and sage, he immerses himself in the simple life of the lagoon, inspired by popular faith, local gossip, and a few sincere friendships.
Now, decades later, some of his works – never previously exhibited – emerge from the homes of citizens who had kept the secret, offering the public an intimate glimpse into the colorful and visionary universe of this forgotten artist.
The exhibition accompanies the release of the illustrated children's book “Giorgio Foresto, a life in colors,” written by Giovanni Scarpa and illustrated by Anna Formaggio, published by Libreria Editrice Il Leggio.
A delicate tribute that tells young children the story of a man who, fleeing the clamor of fame, scattered along his path small crumbs of beauty, like in an ancient fairy tale.
Hinter dem Pseudonym Giorgio Foresto verbirgt sich Giorgio De Gaspari, Jahrgang 1927, der als einer der größten Illustrator des letzten Jahrhunderts anerkannt ist, bekannt vor allem für seine Arbeit für La Domenica del Corriere.
In den 70er Jahren, auf dem Höhepunkt seines Erfolges, wählt De Gaspari die Anonymität und zieht sich auf die Insel Pellestrina zurück. Dort lebt er in einer heruntergekommenen Atelier-Pfahlbau wie ein Einsiedler, tauscht seine Zeichnungen gegen lebensnotwendige Güter.
Ein zurückhaltender Mann, Poet, Maler, Spaßvogel und weiser Mensch, taucht er in das einfache Leben der Lagune ein, angeregt durch den Volksglauben, Dorfsagen und einige wenige, ehrliche Freundschaften.
Jetzt, Jahrzehnte später, kommen einige seiner Werke - die nie zuvor ausgestellt wurden - aus den Häusern der Bürger, die das Geheimnis gehütet hatten, und schenken der Öffentlichkeit einen intimen Einblick in das bunte und visionäre Universum dieses vergessenen Künstlers.
Die Ausstellung begleitet die Veröffentlichung des illustrierten Kinderbuchs "Giorgio Foresto, ein Leben in Farben", geschrieben von Giovanni Scarpa und illustriert von Anna Formaggio, herausgegeben von der Libreria Editrice Il Leggio.
Eine zarte Hommage, die den Kleinsten die Geschichte eines Mannes erzählt, der, dem Lärm des Ruhms entfliehen, kleine Brösel an Schönheit auf seinem Weg hinterlassen hat, wie in einem alten Märchen.
