Come erano gli spettacoli del passato? Come risuonavano le voci? Come erano i gesti? E le prove? Quali le fatiche e il fascino del teatro di un tempo? E il pubblico?
Artiste e artisti di ieri, famosi e dimenticati, girovaghi e vitali, idealisti e cialtroni, raffinati e appassionati, ci conducono per mano tra camerini e palcoscenici di Ottocento e Novecento, sfiorando le luci del varietà fino ad affacciarsi al cinema.
Attraverso studi preziosi, biografie, autobiografie, lettere e memorie di gente di teatro cerchiamo le radici di un’arte che sia al centro della vita sociale, culturale e politica delle comunità.

What were the performances of the past like? How did the voices resonate? What were the gestures like? And the rehearsals? What were the efforts and charm of theater from another time? And the audience?
Artists of yesterday, famous and forgotten, wandering and vital, idealists and charlatans, refined and passionate, guide us by the hand through dressing rooms and stages of the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries, brushing against the lights of variety until they gaze upon cinema.
Through valuable studies, biographies, autobiographies, letters, and memories of theater people, we seek the roots of an art that is at the center of the social, cultural, and political life of communities.

Wie waren die Aufführungen der Vergangenheit? Wie klangen die Stimmen? Wie waren die Gesten? Und die Proben? Welche Mühen und welche Faszination hatte das Theater früher? Und das Publikum?
Die Künstlerinnen und Künstler von gestern, berühmt und vergessen, herumziehend und vital, idealistisch und schäbig, raffiniert und leidenschaftlich, führen uns Hand in Hand durch die Umkleideräume und Bühnen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts und streifen die Lichter des Varietés bis hin zum Kino.
Durch wertvolle Studien, Biografien, Autobiografien, Briefe und Erinnerungen von Menschen aus dem Theater suchen wir die Wurzeln einer Kunst, die im Zentrum des sozialen, kulturellen und politischen Lebens der Gemeinschaften steht.
