Fiera Nazionale di san Martino 1819

Musicali

Descrizione

The Massa fair was established on May 10, 1819, by the imperial royal government, but an old deed from the notary Giovanni Bertoldi documents that in 1765, a well-organized fair took place in Castelmassa. In the first half of the nineteenth century, the fair experienced a decline but then revived with the Unification of Italy, thereby
providing development for local products.
Massa Superiore was famous for livestock, hemp, and seeds, as well as for agricultural equipment.
Besides trade, there were many attractions that characterized the Fair in the early years of the twentieth century: jugglers, the fire-eater who released long flames from his mouth, the sword swallower, and the chain breaker.
During the years of Fascism, the San Martino Fair continued its history with the market for goods and livestock, the amusement park, dances, rides, and equestrian circus.
After the war, the Fair was revived. On a rainy Saturday, September 11, 1946, the first Post-War Exhibition Fair was solemnly inaugurated in the presence of the mayor, the prefect, and many distinguished personalities.
In the early fifties, the desire to live and have fun returned to the hearts of the people, and the San Martino Fair, the last in Polesine, became an opportunity for autumn shopping and spending cheerful, carefree days before the long winter.
In 1955, the art exhibition was inaugurated at THE STATE ART INSTITUTE OF CASTELMASSA and the 1st NATIONAL STORYTELLING COMPETITIONwas well received.
In 1961, with great amazement and wonder, all the children could watch animated cartoons under the loggia of the Cotogni Theatre, and the PIPPO VOLTE theater company presented the operetta "THE LAND OF BELLS."
In the sixties and seventies, the fair continued to be a grand folkloric event, where tradition was also maintained in the kitchen, celebrating with a special menu while outside the fog enveloped everything and housewives prepared tortellini and cotechino with sauerkraut.
In 1982, the MAAC exhibition (Craft Exhibition of Altopolesine Castelmassa) was established, initiated by the Municipal Administration, the provincial CNA, and the PRO LOCO. Over the years, other initiatives and exhibitions were added, located in the loggia of the Cotogni Theatre, in the atrium of the Municipality, in the Council Chamber, in the Hall of the Mantovana Agricultural Bank, at the Social Center, and at the Art Institute.
But beyond the economic and folkloric event, for the people of Castelmasse, the fair is something more. In that festive atmosphere, during the last days of mild sun, the desire to go out, to see people, to stroll among the stalls, and to rediscover the sweet smell of powdered sugar, which brings back "sweet" memories. And so the fair becomes a “TEMPTATION” that no Castelmassese can resist.
