Terzo appuntamento della Stagione di Prosa con Gianfelice Imparato.
Scritta nel 1908 da Eduardo Scarpetta, Il medico dei pazzi è una commedia irresistibile che racconta le disavventure di Don Felice Sciosciammocca, ingenuo e ricco proprietario terriero convinto che il nipote Ciccillo, da lui mantenuto agli studi, sia diventato un affermato medico direttore di un manicomio. In realtà, il giovane ha dilapidato tutto in feste e gioco d’azzardo, trascinando lo zio in una catena di malintesi esilaranti.
In questa nuova messa in scena la storia si sposta nella Napoli di fine anni Settanta, nel pieno del cambiamento introdotto dalla Legge Basaglia che chiude i manicomi. È una città viva, caotica, attraversata da fermenti sociali e culturali, in cui Sciosciammocca, spaesato tra basettoni, pantaloni a zampa e canzoni indimenticabili, fatica a capire chi sia realmente “matto”. Forse lo è lui stesso, prigioniero di illusioni e apparenze.
Dietro la comicità vivace e colorata si nasconde così una riflessione più sottile e attuale: in un mondo dove i ruoli si confondono e le maschere cambiano continuamente, cosa resta della nostra vera identità?

Written in 1908 by Eduardo Scarpetta, The Doctor of Fools is an irresistible comedy that tells the misadventures of Don Felice Sciosciammocca, a naïve and wealthy landowner who believes that his nephew Ciccillo, whom he is supporting through his studies, has become a renowned doctor and director of a mental asylum. In reality, the young man has squandered everything on parties and gambling, dragging his uncle into a chain of hilarious misunderstandings.
In this new staging, the story is set in Naples at the end of the Seventies, during the upheaval introduced by the Basaglia Law which closes asylums. It is a vibrant, chaotic city, marked by social and cultural ferment, where Sciosciammocca, disoriented amidst platform shoes, bell-bottomed pants, and unforgettable songs, struggles to understand who is truly “mad.” Perhaps he himself is, a prisoner of illusions and appearances.
Behind the lively and colorful comedy lies a more subtle and timely reflection: in a world where roles blur and masks continually change, what remains of our true identity?

Geschrieben 1908 von Eduardo Scarpetta, Der Arzt der Verrückten ist eine unwiderstehliche Komödie, die die Missgeschicke von Don Felice Sciosciammocca erzählt, einem naiven und wohlhabenden Grundbesitzer, der überzeugt ist, dass sein Neffe Ciccillo, den er für das Studium unterstützt, ein erfolgreicher Arzt und Direktor einer Psychiatrie geworden ist. In Wirklichkeit hat der Junge alles in Festen und Glücksspiel verschwendet und seinen Onkel in eine Kette von amüsanten Missverständnissen verwickelt.
In dieser neuen Inszenierung verlagert sich die Geschichte nach Neapel Ende der 70er Jahre, zur Zeit des Wandels, das durch das Basaglia-Gesetz eingeleitet wurde, das die Irrenanstalten schloss. Es ist eine lebendige, chaotische Stadt, durchzogen von sozialen und kulturellen Bewegungen, in der Sciosciammocca, verwirrt zwischen Hosenträgern, Schlaghosen und unvergesslichen Liedern, Mühe hat zu begreifen, wer wirklich „verrückt“ ist. Vielleicht ist er es selbst, gefangen in Illusionen und Erscheinungen.
Hinter der lebhaften und bunten Komik verbirgt sich so eine subtilere und aktuellere Reflexion: In einer Welt, in der sich die Rollen verwischen und die Masken sich ständig verändern, was bleibt von unserer wahren Identität?
