Per questo sembriamo sempre tutti persi a cercare qualcosa, anche quando compiamo solo pochi gesti impercettibili attaccati a piccole bolle luminose e non si capisce chi ascolta e chi parla, chi lavora e chi si diverte, chi trova davvero qualcosa e chi è solo confuso. Sei arrivato fin qui senza spostare lo sguardo? Davvero? E non è insopportabile questo sforzo di fare una cosa soltanto alla volta? Guardati attorno: quante altre cose attirano la tua attenzione? Ora guardati dall’alto: riesci a vederti? Le superfici dei territori più densamente abitati della Terra sono coperte da una fitta nebbia di messaggi, immagini e suoni in cui le persone si muovono, interagiscono, dormono. A volte si alzano rumori più intensi, che la nebbia riassorbe subito mentre lampeggia e risuona. Visto da qui il pianeta sembra semplicemente troppo rumoroso e distratto per riuscire a sopravvivere – persino i ghiacciai si sciolgono troppo lentamente perché qualcuno presti attenzione alla cosa. Torniamo al suolo e guardiamoci da vicino: stiamo tutti mutando… in qualcosa di molto, molto veloce.

Can you read this text without interruptions? Attention is a form of alienation: the point is to know what to be alienated by.
That's why we all seem lost, searching for something, even when we are just making a few imperceptible gestures attached to small shining bubbles, and it is unclear who is listening and who is speaking, who is working and who is having fun, who really finds something and who is just confused. Did you make it this far without shifting your gaze? Really? And isn't this effort to do just one thing at a time unbearable? Look around you: how many other things grab your attention? Now look at yourself from above: can you see yourself? The surfaces of the most densely populated areas of the Earth are covered by a thick fog of messages, images, and sounds in which people move, interact, and sleep. Sometimes louder noises arise, which the fog immediately absorbs as it flashes and resonates. From here, the planet simply seems too noisy and distracted to survive – even glaciers are melting too slowly for anyone to pay attention to it. Let's return to the ground and look closely: we are all mutating… into something very, very fast.

Kannst du diesen Text ohne Unterbrechungen lesen? Aufmerksamkeit ist eine Form der Entfremdung: es geht darum, zu wissen, in was man sich entfremden möchte.
Deshalb scheinen wir alle immer verloren auf der Suche nach etwas zu sein, auch wenn wir nur wenige unauffällige Gesten machen, die mit kleinen leuchtenden Blasen verbunden sind, und man nicht versteht, wer hört und wer spricht, wer arbeitet und wer sich amüsiert, wer wirklich etwas findet und wer nur verwirrt ist. Bist du bis hierher gekommen, ohne den Blick abzuwenden? Wirklich? Und ist dieser Aufwand, nur eine Sache auf einmal zu tun, nicht unerträglich? Schau dich um: wie viele andere Dinge lenken deine Aufmerksamkeit ab? Jetzt schau von oben: kannst du dich sehen? Die Oberflächen der am dichtesten besiedelten Gebiete der Erde sind von einem dichten Nebel aus Nachrichten, Bildern und Klängen bedeckt, in dem sich die Menschen bewegen, interagieren und schlafen. Manchmal erhebt sich intensiverer Lärm, der sofort vom Nebel wieder absorbiert wird, während er blinkt und widerhallt. Von hier aus scheint der Planet einfach zu laut und abgelenkt, um überleben zu können – selbst die Gletscher schmelzen zu langsam, als dass jemand der Sache Aufmerksamkeit schenkt. Kehren wir zum Boden zurück und schauen wir uns näher an: wir alle verändern uns… in etwas sehr, sehr Schnelles.
