La marantega Bepina è una vecchia burbera che fa stregonerie.
Brutta, spettinata, con il naso adunco, la voce tremula, è vestita di stracci scuri che le coprono le gambe fino ai piedi. Ha le mani fredde e callose, una faccia raggrinzita e occhi color rame come quelli dei gufi. La trovi seduta fuori dalla sua casa, una vecchia catapecchia con i balconi sempre socchiusi.
Talvolta appare assieme alla sua gemella, la marantega Clarice. Le due si fondono e si confondono in un gioco di specchi che diverte e sorprende chi le incontra. La loro somiglianza è talmente elevata che nessuno può dire veramente se le maranteghe sono due o una...

The marantega Bepina is an old grumpy woman who practices witchcraft.
Ugly, disheveled, with a hooked nose, a trembling voice, she is dressed in dark rags that cover her legs down to her feet. She has cold, calloused hands, a wrinkled face, and eyes the color of copper, like those of owls. You can find her sitting outside her house, an old shack with balconies that are always ajar.
Sometimes she appears along with her twin, the marantega Clarice. The two merge and blend in a game of mirrors that entertains and surprises those who encounter them. Their resemblance is so striking that no one can truly say whether the maranteghe are two or one...
Valentina Brusaferro and Martina Pittarello have been working for some time on the oral heritage, myths, and legends of Veneto, exploring popular language, the memory of the filò, and fantastic presences tied to nature.

Die Marantega Bepina ist eine alte grimmige Frau, die Hexereien macht.
Hässlich, zerzaust, mit einer krummen Nase, einer zitternden Stimme, trägt sie dunkle Lumpen, die ihre Beine bis zu den Füßen bedecken. Sie hat kalte, raue Hände, ein faltiges Gesicht und augen in kupferfarben wie die der Eulen. Man findet sie vor ihrem Haus, einer alten Bruchbude mit ständig halb geöffneten Balkonen.
Manchmal erscheint sie zusammen mit ihrer Zwillingsschwester, der Marantega Clarice. Die beiden verschmelzen und verwechseln sich in einem Spiel von Spiegeln, das diejenigen unterhält und überrascht, die ihnen begegnen. Ihre Ähnlichkeit ist so groß, dass niemand wirklich sagen kann, ob die Maranteghe zwei oder eine sind...
Valentina Brusaferro und Martina Pittarello arbeiten schon lange am oralem Erbe, an Mythen und Legenden Venetos, zwischen Volkssprache, Erinnerung an den Filò und fantastischen Wesen der Natur.
