Venezia 1716. Cecilia è un’orfana all’Ospedale della Pietà, e come le altre ospiti dell’istituto ha imparato a leggere, scrivere e soprattutto suonare uno strumento, il violino. Le musiciste più dotate si esibiscono in pubblico, fino a che non vengono date in sposa. Fino a quando le ragazze vengono affidate alla guida di un prete di grande talento ma fallimentare come impresario musicale: Antonio Vivaldi, che intuirà in Cecilia un talento simile al proprio.

Die begabtesten Musikerinnen treten öffentlich auf, bis sie verheiratet werden. Bis die Mädchen unter die Obhut eines Priesters gelegt werden, der großes Talent hat, aber als Musikveranstalter gescheitert ist: Antonio Vivaldi, der in Cecilia ein ähnliches Talent wie das seine erkennen wird.
