La via Karera, antica strada di accesso a Mel, prende il nome dal transito dei carri che portavano merci dalla campagna adiacente fino al centro del borgo, entrando tra il Palazzo Municipale e il Palazzo Cappello. Chiusa fra mura robuste, passa sotto due grandi archi sopra i quali nel XVII secolo fu edificato il palazzo Pivetta. Un tempo la karera era interamente pavimentata a ciottoli e prende il nome dal transito dei carri. Collega il centro di Mel con la frazione di Puner e attualmente rappresenta un’affascinante e romantica passeggiata.
Via Karera, the ancient access road to Mel, enters the main square between the Town Hall and Palazzo Cappello. As it climbs towards the centre of the town, it is flanked on either side by solid walls and passes under two large arches on top of which Palazzo Pivetta was built in the 17th century. The road was once completely cobbled and takes its name from the carts which once brought goods up to the town. It links the centre of Mel with the village of Puner and today is a charming and romantic walk.
