"Mi colpisce molto, nel leggere le recensioni del mio romanzo, o nell’ascoltare, durante le presentazioni pubbliche, i pareri di chi lo ha letto, quanto spesso ricorrano immagini di speranza. Non una speranza generica, non l’«aspetta e spera» del tirare avanti la carretta. No, è più una fiducia nella possibilità di riscoprire le amicizie, di riscattare le nostre esistenze a partire dalle relazioni, dal legame sociale. Legame che, nel romanzo, si riforma riconquistando un rapporto coi nostri territori, che da troppo tempo «abitiamo nostro malgrado», come mi ha detto un amico architetto/progettista, per dire che il nostro abitare è forzoso, abitudinario, irriflessivo. Sempre più i colpi durissimi della crisi climatica ci fanno aprire gli occhi, e svelano l’alienazione e l’ignoranzacon cui viviamo in luoghi sempre più ridotti a meri spazi, spazi da attraversare seguendo traiettorie su cui ci illudiamo di avere un qualche controllo, e che invece sono in tutto e per tutto coatte.
Chi conosce più la vita dei corsi d’acqua? La maggioranza di chi ci vive accanto li dà per scontati, poi esondazioni, alluvioni o angoscianti secche ci sorprendono, e capiamo che scontati non sono affatto. Sapevo di avere scritto un «romanzo geografico»: non mi ero reso conto fino a che punto raccontare una storia di ri-conoscenza di un territorio – nel caso specifico, il Delta del Po – fosse già, in tutto e per tutto, raccontare una storia di nuovi legami che si formano, di convergenze e nuove comunanze tra le persone. Me ne rendo conto ora, grazie a lettrici e lettori. In un periodo di pervasive angosce e di tracotanti e immani minacce all’ambiente, al mondo, alla vita stessa, sono felice di avere scritto un libro che spazzola contropelo la realtà asfittica che ci arriva con le news, e suscita reazioni in controtendenza. Non ringrazierò mai abbastanza chi ogni giorno mi aiuta a capire sempre meglio il senso del mio lavoro." Wu Ming 1
Saremo sapientemente accolti da Chiara Alpago Novello dalle 10:30 per la prima colazione con caffè, tè, tutte le cose buone che servono a cominciare bene la giornata biscotti con farine bio cotti in forno a legna, yogurt e formaggi locali, marmellate di frutta del giardino, e quello che il risveglio e la stagione ispirano (per esempio, la chiffon). ore 12.30 pranzo leggero, saluti e brindisi. In mezzo, chiacchiere, domande, belle idee. A volontà.
"What strikes me most, in reading the reviews of my novel, or in listening, during public presentations, to the opinions of those who have read it, is how often images of hope recur. I knew I had written a 'geographical novel': I had not realized to what extent telling a story of re-knowledge of a territory – in this specific case, the Po Delta – was already, in every way, telling a story of new bonds being formed, of convergences and new communality among people. I realize this now, thanks to readers and audiences. In a time of pervasive anxieties and overwhelming and immense threats to the environment, to the world, to life itself, I am happy to have written a book that brushes against the suffocating reality that comes to us with the news, and elicits countertrend reactions. "Es beeindruckt mich sehr, beim Lesen der Reviews meines Romans oder beim Zuhören der Meinungen von Lesern während öffentlicher Präsentationen, wie oft Bilder der Hoffnung vorkommen. Keine generelle Hoffnung, kein 'warte und hoffe' beim Hinausschieben der Dinge. Nein, es ist mehr ein Vertrauen in die Möglichkeit, Freundschaften wiederzuentdecken, unser Leben durch Beziehungen und soziale Bindungen zu retten. Eine Bindung, die im Roman neu entsteht, indem wir eine Beziehung zu unseren Territorien gewinnen, die wir seit zu langer Zeit 'unfreiwillig bewohnen', wie mir ein Freund, Architekt/Designer, sagte, um zu verdeutlichen, dass unser Wohnen erzwungen, routinehaft und reflexionslos ist. Immer mehr zwingen uns die brutalen Schläge der Klimakrise, die Augen zu öffnen, und enthüllen die Entfremdung und Ignoranz, mit der wir in Orten leben, die zunehmend auf bloße Räume reduziert werden, Räume, die wir durchqueren, indem wir Trajektorien folgen, von denen wir uns einbilden, dass wir eine gewisse Kontrolle darüber haben, die jedoch in jeder Hinsicht auferlegt sind.
Wer kennt noch das Leben der Gewässer? Die Mehrheit der Menschen, die neben ihnen leben, hält sie für selbstverständlich, dann überraschen uns Überschwemmungen, Fluten oder schmerzhafte Trockenheiten, und wir erkennen, dass sie alles andere als selbstverständlich sind. Ich wusste, dass ich einen 'geografischen Roman' geschrieben hatte: Ich hatte nicht erkannt, inwieweit es bereits darum geht, eine Geschichte der Wiedererkenntnis eines Territoriums – im konkreten Fall das Po-Delta – zu erzählen, eine Geschichte neuer Bindungen, die sich bilden, von Konvergenzen und neuen Gemeinschaften zwischen den Menschen. Das wird mir jetzt klar, dank der Leserinnen und Leser. In einer Zeit voller durchdringender Ängste und überheblichen und gewaltigen Bedrohungen für die Umwelt, die Welt und das Leben selbst, bin ich froh, ein Buch geschrieben zu haben, das die erstickende Realität, die uns mit den Nachrichten erreicht, gegen den Strich bürstet und gegensätzliche Reaktionen hervorruft. Wir werden weise empfangen von Chiara Alpago Novello ab 10:30 Uhr zum Frühstück mit Kaffee, Tee und all den guten Dingen, die einen guten Start in den Tag ermöglichen: Bio-Kekse aus dem Holzofen, Joghurt und lokale Käsesorten, Marmelade aus Gartenfrüchten und das, was das Aufwachen und die Jahreszeit inspirieren (zum Beispiel Chiffon). Um 12:30 Uhr leichtes Mittagessen, Grüße und Anstoßen. Dazwischen Gespräche, Fragen, schöne Ideen. So viel man möchte.
