Descrizione
Situato al margine sud-occidentale di Bolzano, il castello è considerato uno degli emblemi dell'Alto Adige. Il nome originario "Formigar" deriva dal latino "formicaria". Dal X secolo d.C. il castello era di proprietà dei principi vescovi di Trento. Nella seconda metà del Quattrocento fu acquistato dal duca Sigismondo il Danaroso, conte di Tirolo, che lo trasformò nel più grande e prestigioso dei suoi castelli dandogli il nome di "Sigmundskron" (corona di Sigismondo). Oggi è sede del museo della montagna di Reinhold Messner MMM Firmian.
Located at the southern-western outskirts of Bolzano/Bozen, this castle is considered one of the emblems of South Tyrol. The original name "Formigar" stems from the Latin word "formicaria". From the 10th century a.d. the castle belonged to the Prince-Bishop of Trento, while during the second half of the 15th century Duke Sigismond , Count of Tirol, bought it and transformed it into the biggest and most prestigious of his castles naming it Sigmundskron (Sigismonds' crown). At the present date it has become the Mountain Museum of Reinhold Messner MMM Firmian.
Das Schloss wird als eines der Wahrzeichen Südtirols betrachtet. Es liegt an der südwestlichen Stadtgrenze über dem Flusslauf der Etsch. Sein ursprünglicher Name "Formigar" stammt vom Lateinischen "formicaria", in Abwandlung entstand später der Name "Firmian". Ab dem 10. Jh. war die Burg im Besitz der Fürstbischöfe von Trient. In der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jh. wurde sie unter Herzog Siegmund dem Münzreichen von Tirol zu einer der prächtigsten Burgen im Land und trug fortan den Namen "Sigmundskron" (Krone von Sigismund). Heute ist das Schloss Sitz des Bergmuseums von Reinhold Messner - Messner Mountain Museum Firmian.
