Il nuovo progetto di Paolo Fresu chiude idealmente il cerchio della trilogia iniziata con Tempo di Chet dedicato alla figura di Chet Baker e proseguito con Tango Macondo, ponte ideale tra Sardegna e Sudamerica. Kind of Lives è la versione prettamente concertistica della splendida dedica al grande nome di Miles Davis voluta da Fresu. Sul palco otto grandi nomi della musica contemporanea suddivisi da Paolo in due ensemble: uno acustico (idealmente riferibile al jazz di Baker e al primo storico Davis) e l’altro elettrico verso gli altri retaggi “modernisti” che collegano le scelte del Miles Davis “elettrico” con progetti di Fresu come ad esempio Heroes, vale a dire l’omaggio a David Bowie. I musicisti in scena collaborano da sempre con Fresu, ne condividono i palcoscenici e sono partecipi alla scrittura collettiva intessuta di ampi spazi di improvvisazione misti ad interpretazioni di cover mutuate dal repertorio di Miles Davis. Peculiare appare inoltre la scelta della doppia batteria che, anche in questo caso, evidenzia le “volontà live” di Fresu che guardano da un lato ad una parte più storicamente jazzistica e dall’altra verso il lato progressivo della stessa materia.
Paolo Fresu's new project ideally closes the circle of the trilogy that began with Tempo di Chet dedicated to the figure of Chet Baker and continued with Tango Macondo, an ideal bridge between Sardinia and South America. Kind of Lives is the purely concert version of the splendid tribute to the great name of Miles Davis desired by Fresu. On stage, eight prominent names of contemporary music divided by Paolo into two ensembles: one acoustic (ideally referable to Baker's jazz and the early historic Davis) and the other electric towards other "modernist" legacies that connect the choices of the "electric" Miles Davis with Fresu's projects such as Heroes, that is, the tribute to David Bowie. The musicians on stage have always collaborated with Fresu, sharing the stages and participating in the collective writing woven with broad spaces of improvisation mixed with interpretations of covers drawn from Miles Davis's repertoire. Notably, the choice of the double drummer also stands out, which, in this case, highlights Fresu's "live intentions" that look towards a more historically jazz-oriented side and, on the other hand, towards the progressive side of the same material.
Das neue Projekt von Paolo Fresu schließt idealerweise den Kreis der Trilogie, die mit Tempo di Chet gewidmet an die Figur von Chet Baker begann und mit Tango Macondo fortgesetzt wurde, einer idealen Brücke zwischen Sardinien und Südamerika. Kind of Lives ist die rein konzertante Version der wunderschönen Hommage an den großen Namen von Miles Davis, die Fresu gewünscht hat. Auf der Bühne stehen acht große Namen der zeitgenössischen Musik, die Paolo in zwei Ensembles unterteilt: ein akustisches (ideal mit dem Jazz von Baker und dem ersten historischen Davis verknüpft) und ein elektrisches in Richtung anderer “modernistischer” Erbschaften, die die Entscheidungen des „elektrischen“ Miles Davis mit Fresus Projekten wie zum Beispiel Heroes, sprich die Hommage an David Bowie, verbinden. Die Musiker auf der Bühne arbeiten seit jeher mit Fresu zusammen, teilen sich die Bühnen und sind an dem kollektiven Schreibprozess beteiligt, der aus weitläufigen Improvisationsräumen besteht, gemischt mit Interpretationen von Covers, die dem Repertoire von Miles Davis entnommen sind. Besonders auffällig ist zudem die Wahl der doppelten Trommel, die auch in diesem Fall die “Live-Wünsche” von Fresu unterstreicht, die einerseits zu einem historisch jazzigeren Teil und andererseits zu der progressiven Seite desselben Materials blicken.
