Margherita e Marcello si conoscono su un treno. Lei sta scappando dalla sua famiglia, lui vi sta facendo ritorno. Seduti l’una di fronte all’altro, su un vagone affollato, tra bambini che giocano e anziani che hanno voglia di chiacchierare, i due si prendono le misure. All’inizio sono cauti; poi, quasi senza accorgersene, si ritrovano a confidarsi. Parlano di rapporti di coppia, di figli, di sogni e fragilità, di promesse mantenute oppure dimenticate.
Come in un film d’autore, nell’intimità di un’inquadratura fissa, Matteo Bussola mette in scena un dialogo a cuore aperto tra una donna che ha uno sguardo schietto e disilluso e un uomo che non smette di credere negli altri. Due persone dalle esistenze apparentemente ordinarie, familiari al punto che ci sembrano le nostre. E che, nella realtà parallela del viaggio, scoprono una parte inedita, inconfessabile, di sé. Un incendio fuori stagione che forse neppure il destino riuscirà a spegnere.
Come sarebbe Prima dell’alba se i protagonisti, anziché una ragazza e un ragazzo, fossero due adulti che si sentono traditi dal mondo? Sarebbe La luce degli incendi a dicembre. La storia di uno di quegli inattesi spiragli con cui la vita ci ricorda che siamo ancora in tempo.

Margherita and Marcello meet on a train. She is fleeing from her family, he is returning to it. Sitting across from each other, in a crowded carriage, among children playing and elderly people eager to chat, the two size each other up. At first, they are cautious; then, almost without realizing it, they find themselves confiding in each other. They talk about relationships, children, dreams and fragilities, about promises kept or forgotten.
Like in an auteur film, in the intimacy of a fixed frame, Matteo Bussola stages an open-hearted dialogue between a woman with a candid and disillusioned gaze and a man who continues to believe in others. Two people with seemingly ordinary lives, familiar enough that they seem like our own. And who, in the parallel reality of the journey, discover an unprecedented, unconfessable part of themselves. An off-season fire that perhaps even destiny will not be able to extinguish.
How would it be Before Dawn if the protagonists, instead of a girl and a boy, were two adults who feel betrayed by the world? It would be The Light of the Fires in December. The story of one of those unexpected openings with which life reminds us that we are still on time.

Begegnung mit Matteo Bussola zur Präsentation des Buches "Das Licht der Brände im Dezember".
Margherita und Marcello lernen sich in einem Zug kennen. Sie flieht vor ihrer Familie, er kehrt zurück. Sitzen einander gegenüber in einem überfüllten Wagen, zwischen spielenden Kindern und älteren Menschen, die gerne plaudern, messen sich die beiden. Zunächst sind sie vorsichtig; dann, fast unbemerkt, beginnen sie, sich zu öffnen. Sie sprechen über Beziehungen, Kinder, Träume und Zerbrechlichkeit, über gehaltene oder vergessene Versprechen.
Wie in einem Autorenfilm inszeniert Matteo Bussola einen offenen Dialog zwischen einer Frau mit einem klaren und desillusionierten Blick und einem Mann, der nie aufhört, an andere zu glauben. Zwei Menschen mit scheinbar gewöhnlichen Existenzen, so vertraut, dass sie uns wie unsere eigenen erscheinen. Und die in der parallelen Realität der Reise eine unerprobte, inbegriffene Seite von sich entdecken. Ein saisonunüblicher Brand, den vielleicht nicht einmal das Schicksal löschen kann.
Wie wäre Vor der Dämmerung wenn die Protagonisten, statt ein Mädchen und einen Jungen, zwei Erwachsene wären, die sich von der Welt betrogen fühlen? Es wäre Das Licht der Brände im Dezember. Die Geschichte eines dieser unerwarteten Spalten, mit denen das Leben uns daran erinnert, dass wir noch Zeit haben.
