Mariano De Santis è il Presidente della Repubblica. Nessun riferimento a presidenti esistenti, frutto completamente della fantasia dell’autore. Vedovo, cattolico, ha una figlia, Dorotea, giurista come lui. Alla fine del suo mandato, tra giornate noiose, spuntano gli ultimi compiti: decidere su due delicate richieste di grazia. Veri e propri dilemmi morali. Che si intersecano, in maniera apparentemente inestricabile, con la sua vita privata. Mosso dal dubbio, dovrà decidere. E, con grande senso di responsabilità, è quel che farà questo grande Presidente della Repubblica Italiana.

Widower, Catholic, he has a daughter, Dorotea, a jurist like him. At the end of his term, amidst boring days, the last tasks emerge: deciding on two delicate requests for clemency. True moral dilemmas. That intersect, in an apparently inextricable way, with his private life. Driven by doubt, he will have to decide. And, with a great sense of responsibility, that is what this great President of the Italian Republic will do.

Am Ende seiner Amtszeit, zwischen langweiligen Tagen, tauchen die letzten Aufgaben auf: entscheiden über zwei heikle Gnadengesuche. Echte moralische Dilemmas. Die sich scheinbar unlösbar mit seinem Privatleben verweben. Vom Zweifel getrieben, muss er entscheiden. Und mit großem Verantwortungssinn wird dies der große Präsident der Italienischen Republik tun.
