Martedì 11 agosto alle ore 21.00, in Piazza Papa Giovanni Paolo II a Ca’ Savio, la rassegna “Estate Letteraria” propone un incontro con Nello Cristianini, professore di Intelligenza Artificiale all’Università di Bath e autore di studi dedicati al rapporto tra tecnologie intelligenti e società.
Nel corso della serata presenterà il saggio Forma mentis. La corsa per decifrare i pensieri delle macchine, pubblicato da il Mulino nel 2026. Il volume affronta una delle questioni centrali del dibattito contemporaneo: comprendere che cosa accade all’interno dei sistemi di intelligenza artificiale più avanzati, sviluppati attraverso processi di apprendimento e non costruiti seguendo soltanto istruzioni definite in ogni dettaglio.
Il libro accompagna il lettore tra reti neurali, concetti emergenti e nuove ricerche, interrogandosi sulla possibilità di interpretare il funzionamento di sistemi ai quali vengono affidati compiti e decisioni sempre più rilevanti. L’incontro offrirà l’occasione per dialogare con l’autore sul presente e sul futuro dell’intelligenza artificiale, sulle sue implicazioni culturali ed etiche e sulla necessità di comprendere strumenti che incidono sempre più nella vita collettiva.

Tuesday, August 11 at 9.00 p.m., in Piazza Papa Giovanni Paolo II in Ca’ Savio, the event “Literary Summer” offers a meeting with Nello Cristianini, professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bath and author of studies dedicated to the relationship between intelligent technologies and society.
During the evening, he will present the essay Forma mentis. The race to decipher the thoughts of machines, published by il Mulino in 2026. The volume addresses one of the central issues of contemporary debate: understanding what happens within advanced artificial intelligence systems, developed through learning processes and not built solely by following detailed instructions.
The book guides the reader through neural networks, emerging concepts, and new research, questioning the possibility of interpreting the functioning of systems entrusted with increasingly relevant tasks and decisions. The meeting will provide an opportunity to dialogue with the author about the present and future of artificial intelligence, its cultural and ethical implications, and the necessity of understanding tools that increasingly impact collective life.

August um 21.00 Uhr, auf Platz Papa Giovanni Paolo II in Ca’ Savio, schlägt die Reihe “Literarischer Sommer” ein Treffen mit Nello Cristianini vor, Professor für Künstliche Intelligenz an der Universität von Bath und Autor von Studien über das Verhältnis zwischen intelligenten Technologien und Gesellschaft.
Im Laufe des Abends wird er den Essay "Forma mentis. Der Wettlauf, die Gedanken der Maschinen zu entschlüsseln", veröffentlicht von il Mulino im Jahr 2026, vorstellen. Der Band behandelt eines der zentralen Themen der zeitgenössischen Debatte: zu verstehen, was innerhalb der fortschrittlichsten Systeme der künstlichen Intelligenz geschieht, die durch Lernprozesse entwickelt wurden und nicht nur gemäß detailliert festgelegter Anweisungen konstruiert sind.
Das Buch führt den Leser durch neuronale Netze, aufkommende Konzepte und neue Forschungen und fragt sich, ob es möglich ist, das Funktionieren von Systemen zu interpretieren, denen immer relevantere Aufgaben und Entscheidungen anvertraut werden. Das Treffen bietet die Gelegenheit, mit dem Autor über die Gegenwart und Zukunft der künstlichen Intelligenz, über ihre kulturellen und ethischen Implikationen und über die Notwendigkeit, Werkzeuge zu verstehen, die zunehmend das kollektive Leben beeinflussen, zu dialogisieren.
